I decided to read SECRET WARS after 25 years and you know what?

THIS STORY WAS No where NEAR the EPIC PROPORTION of CRISIS on INFINITE EARTHS.

I think as a kid I brought into the Hype. Besides Spidey's New Uniform and the New Spider-Woman, it was straight filler. I can't think of any long term impact this story has had on the Marvel Universe yet it is regarded as an Epic to Comic Readers.

Agree, Disagree?

:lol::lol:

i just read it again 2 weeks ago.. :lol:

it had its moments.. spidey as a bit of an ass trying to get cap to turn on the hulk

hulk was pretty worthless as the hulk with banners brain. outside of holding that mountain... he kept getting knocked out first punch every fight.. :lol: seriously every fight..

hawkeye kept reminding us how worthless he was without arrows...

the molecule man and volcana romance was starting to get creepy

titania was like a a chick who is now hooked on steroids and you dont want to be around her..

Doom was doom.. he pretty much was no different than he is now, just younger and learning

but the real bullshit.. was the xmen, proffessor x was an asshole who beefed with storm over leadership like 2 cheerleaders fighting over who got to be on top of the pyramid and prof x would't get off captain americas nuts looking for acceptance.....colossus was captain save a hoe, wolverine got his ass kicked like hulk did.. rogue got sucker punched every scene,

i'm almost ashamed to have been an xmen fan :smh:

:smh::smh:

next up on my re read list is fall of the mutants, xtinction agenda and starbrand

How bout Jim Shooters Dialog for Iron Man? "Jive Turkey". Okay we get it, There's a Black Guy in there...(You mean to tell me that Nigga never took off his Armor the whole time there?)

Did they ever explain in Future X-Men issues why Colossus loved that bitch so much?

Crisis was and is far superior to Secret Wars. Always was. Always will be.

DC was great to read if you was new to their universe during that time especially with the "Year One" books that came out after.

For a time I was a serious Teen Titan fan. It all went down hill in the 90's when 'Millennium', 'Invasion', 'Armageddon 2001' 'Bloodlines' and finally 'Zero Hour.' There were books that Teen Titans had no business being in...once they started shoving them into places like that just to make a buck I had to bounce. Came back every now and then but was always disappointment. One of the only stories worth checking out was the tension btw Starfire and Mirage (future wife of Nightwing)...was blinked out of existences by 'Zero Hour'...

It was like every fucking year they tried to come up with a 'Crisis' instead of just concentrating on writing a good book.

Marvel should have learned from their 'Contest Of The Champions' that they needed a more earthbound reason to gather the heroes because many of their characters were earthbound.

Marvel tried too hard to follow suit with DC in this arena and failed hard because they did some cosmic level shit and put street level characters in there...and never had dialogue or content explaining it. I mean Daredevil...in space? Come on.

Annihilation is Marvel's best crossover event ever. That's because they did it right the people that were involved were appropriate. The characters were b-listers so that gave the writers a lot of room to put tension and finality to their adventure.

next up on my re read list is fall of the mutants, xtinction agenda and starbrand

Fall Of The Mutants is one of the best X-Men Events hands down. It had real repercussions for everyone involved for years to come. They were fighting a villain outside of their league and that damage that cat inflicted on them STILL RESONATES on characters you see on their team to this day.

X-tinction Agenda is like the coming of age of the X-Men. I want to say this is a great book but I really can't. There just too many story lines going on in it to follow back when I was younger and when I tried to read it recently I got bogged down into details that I did not care about. If you like the X-Men you have to read it to understand how they 'matured' but to be honest with you...too many motherfuckers survived some really desperate times that I could not believe the victory they pulled out of their ass at the end.

I liked all of the New Universe comics growing up. The Draft is like one of the books that I refer people to all the time. They crossover with the regular Marvel Universe a few times in Quasar, What If and Exiles...always a treat. I think some of the character development and citizen reaction (how the world reacted to heroes) is spot on and used again and again in other books especially Ultimate.

then they cut to james hitting on captain marvel and her telling him to fuck off... you jive turkey

Doom was doom.. he pretty much was no different than he is now, just younger and learning

:confused: Learning what?

You were right the first time...Doom was the same as he is now. You gotta remember that for the characters the Secret War was only "a few years ago".

The series was conceived by Marvel Comics' Editor-in-chief Jim Shooter:
“Kenner had licensed the DC Heroes. Mattel had He-Man, but wanted to hedge in case superheroes became the next big fad. They were interested in Marvel's characters, but only if we staged a publishing event that would get a lot of attention, and they could build a theme around. Fans, especially young fans often suggested to me 'one big story with all the heroes and all the villains in it', so I proposed that. It flew. Mattel thought that kids responded well to the word, "secret" so after a couple of working names bit the dust, we called the story 'Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars'.'

:hmm::hmm::hmm:

Yep.

Money. Greed.

It's everywhere.

Even in comics.

That's why it pays to be a critical thinking customer.

Shit, hopefully no one was in doubt about that. There's a reason why Batman and Wolverine have 5,000 monthly books between them. :lol:

he was a lot angrier and lacked that doom finesse.. old doom would jump in, kick ass, take names later..

now, he walks in, makes a list of all the names of people who's ass he is going to kick and who is going to help him..

if you read the secret wars again and then read current doom, the eagerness was too obvious back in the day, like a younger person who needed to learn a few things..

only time he took an L recently that i recall was when he tried to pick up thor's hammer a while back

that's one of the reasons i gave up on comics a long time ago.. too many spiderman comics.. all not making sense as to why.. silly stories, silly fights and silly crossovers

he had amazing, spectacular and web of all every month, not including crossovers and cameos, team ups and 4 issue story lines that could have all just been written into the regular issues..

Jagi, I think you said you lived in NYC.

Well, if you do from time to time dip into a bodega.

In few stores I hit around 161st, 145th and in Fordham road there are these bodegas that have comics in a 99 cent pack. Some have 2 books and 1 card (sports or comics) and others have 3 comics.

Dude, I completed many collections like Crossgen, Ultraverse and New Universe buy them that way. A few I even sold on craiglist and/or ebay for extra cash too.

In fact, in a recent trip I picked up every issue of DP7 for undeer $12 bucks (the owner gave me 2 free packs because no one was buying them)...Inside of each of them was an issue of RUNE...LOL

Anyway, I got PITT in physical format but not digital.

i used to back in the day, they were stupid (or smart) they would bundle regular or unpopular comics with a HIT comic in a 3 for 1 pack in one sleeve.. i used to hit those habib stores on a regular..

but they are empty now.. you cant even find a good porn magazine anymore....................

I used to live at the comic store on fordham, second floor, small stairwell, tatoos and other stores in the building.. off webster avenue cross from sears... street fighter/guantlet arcade games

i'm going to look for some stores but i doubt there are many in the BX.. i found one a few years ago around 46th and 6th a few years ago but they went out of business..

Good lookingout, i think i have most of it but i'm going to check this out so i can make sure i have it all, especially the PITT issue

Man you talking about Phil's spot. That motherfucker is crazy. That last time I went to that store...He was cutting his toe nails on the counter...Some cats were playing street fighter and hitting the machine hard as fuck.

This dude walked on the top of his counter (knocking down a shit load of books) and came over there and put his foot in this cat's face....This cat was like "I'm sorry Phil I keep forgetting..."....Dude walked back over to me grinned...took a soda can and launched it at this motherfuckers...head missing him and fucking up the street fighter machine...the crack and dent is still there to this day.

LOL

I remember one day when he had some kids go to Adam who use to sell comics on the streets of Fordham road near the Grand Concourse and had them rob this cat of his 'Death of Superman'...Shit was wild back then.

Fordham Comics LOL

Shit, memories are flooding in LOL

peace

:lol:
AS alot of the topics y'all kats are speaking on are the reason I moved AWAY from the comics in the 90s
as was a big XMen & TeenTitans (from the beginning) fan.

NEVER picked that SWs shit up as had a BAD feeling;;
Y'all Uptown & BX kats should have BEEN ventured across the bridge when a lil older into some communities where they had ONLY Posters & Comic books in spots, plus a few games; & what they DIDNt have, they ORDERED for u....

When the corny plot twist started to come into play, u could always take it back a decade or 3 to another classic Marvel tale in the cut somewhere...

Gonna have to break out my old collection one of these days which includes one of them GIANT VS Mags from the 70s - that one joint I had had that Submariner vs Daredevil/Thing vs ____, Thor vs____& Spidey Vs____ ALL IN ONE FUCKING BOOK:eek: - there were no bags big enough to preserve em back then so whomever has that one, PLEASE let me know lol

peace

in basement apartments, hit fordham road, then white castles then gunhill bowling alley, sneak in for free at the valentine theater after getting kicked out of the RKO

We probably bumped heads then because when I was 13. I use to sell comics on Fordham Road. My competition was Adam on Grand Concourse, Nikki on 188th, Billy under the 4 train and George by the book store.

I got 3 black and white notebooks thick of stories just from selling books during those times. Phil is like a recurring character too.

I went everywhere for my books. Most of my comic collection is of obscure books that most people never heard of...and I like it that way :)

Btw - You can get plastics for mags now in any store. You can order it from Previews...the cheapest way I use to get them was through Time Life Magazine...100 for $1.00 this was back in 1989 though. I still have a stack of them just in case.

I have a lot of Giant Sized books. I am currently deciding to sell my CHEIFS (older than dirt books) - Hulk #3, Captain America #5, Amazing Spider-Man 4, 6 and 8 and Solar #1...yes I mean the original. I also have Thor 10 to 20....those are my keepers though family that is no longer on this earth pass those down to me.
