I always thought it was the drug usage lines as to why DMX wasn’t allowed to use the explicit version of “SLIPPIN” on his album

DMX wasn’t allowed to use the explicit version of “Slippin” on his 1998 “Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood” album. But here it is ☝️

DJ Shok (@djshokig) produced this masterpiece and sampled Grover Washington Junior’s “Moonstreams” track. The explicit version wasn’t ever released officially and only leaked on the underground and some unofficial white labels.

Grover Washington Junior loved the track but felt DMX’s lyrics were too explicit and vulgar - so in order for DMX to use the sample he would have to edit out any curse words and have a clean version on any official releases. DMX complied with Grover Washington Junior - which is why the clean version is only available on the album.

Does the explicit version hit different to the clean album version?

This track is a time machine for me, takes me back to where and what I was actually doing. Hanging out with the homies getting fucked up!
