In part one of Huang's World: Detroit, Eddie meets up with hometown hero Danny Brown to eat some massive Big Baby burgers and survey the ways in which Detroit has been affected by the economic downturn, and to discuss how a select few—like Danny—are doing their part to turn the city around.

There, he mows through some Iraqi pastries, checks out Wild Wednesdays (where the community does its bulk shopping), and engages in kebab diplomacy with a Lebanese community leader and some young Muslim activists.

Thanks for the Uppage on this. Pretty entertaining. I've never seen it or heard of it but I wonder if this dude is the creator or inspiration of that new show "Fresh off The Boat". I watched a couple of clips and the shit is actually sad to a degree. He's trying to drop knowledge about gentrification and how their hoods are about to be taken over and they either don't get it or think it won't happen in their hood. Fact of the matter is that if a developer or group of developers can get some land for a reasonable price along with a few other elements then their hood will be snatched up. They showed the white dude walking through Detroit with the suit on and Danny Brown didn't realize that the process had already begun. We have to do better in terms of educating ourselves and pooling what little resources we have to grab some of that gold that's right under our feet. Everyone wants to leave which I understand but when they come back 10 years from now then they'll be mad at the "white man" for changing their hood. You can't tell me that all the money we spend on partying and bullshit or the mental energy we put into Pop Culture can't be used more productively to understand how to invest. Every investor of land lord doesn't start off rich. I've had conversations with a few major landlords in NY and their story is that they came from nothing.
