Police respond to Lake Central High School after teacher accused of using drugs in classroom; video surfaces on social media
ST. JOHN — Videos sent to The Times and posted online to social media allegedly show a Lake Central High School teacher using drugs in an empty classroom Wednesday afternoon and later being escorted from the building by police.
Dyer Police Chief Dave Hein confirmed St. John police requested assistance from Dyer for their police K-9 that specializes in narcotics a little before 1 p.m. Wednesday.
He declined to comment on whether an arrest was made or if the subject of the investigation was a student or teacher. He deferred additional comment to the St. John Police Department.
St. John's Police Chief James Kveton did not immediately respond to phone calls and emails requesting comment.
Lake Central Superintendent Larry Veracco declined to comment Wednesday specifically on a possible arrest made at the school, saying only that "teachers are entitled to their due process rights."
"What I would tell you is that the school received information, worked cooperatively with St. John and Dyer police, and responded to the situation swiftly," Veracco said
