fair point, except they were telling people to donate so that they could have houses built. So the assumption was the Red Cross either directly or indirectly knew how to get this done.To be fair, the Red Cross job is not to build homes. It’s to triage and stabilize the disaster area. Not to rebuild or change land policies.

I've been saying it since i been on bgol to never give your money, time or items to any of those orgs because it's a scam. How do I know?As a teen I worked for GoodWill and the store I worked at netted in 35 thousand a month or better on people's donated items and some will say well they give back with that money by hiring unfortunate people which they do and a percentage of them are blind or black(one or two) but the pay is so low that most can't stay around and they get major tax breaks.
DON'T GIVE THEM ORGS NOTHING,NOT ONE PENNY CAUSE IT'S SMOKING MIRRIORS ......you better off going out on the streets and handing whatever out to the homeless.
Like someone else on this board said, I donate to causes whose work & results I can see. I donate to the Make A Wish foundation, because one of my grandsons was being treated for leukemia, and I saw first hand the things they do for those kids.Yeah a lot are shady
But to say not to donate to ANYONE
is just wrong
Cause I've worked for the church hospitals shelters and not for profits
Trust me there are a LOT who do real good work and save lives.
Just gotta do a little homework
Not you.... but most look for any excuse NOT to do something positive.

World Sickle Day is around the corner
Don't even need your money
Go on social media spread the word and send your local elected official an email to increase funding.
See there?
Free and real help
Let's see how many actually do it though?
They straight up pretty much said 90+ percent of the funds don’t actually have to go to the disaster they are currently asking donations forRed Cross is total bullshit. Remember when they got called out, and they responded with: We don't collect money for the current disaster. We collect money for what might happen in the future.? Quite honestly, I can't believe people still donate to them.

of course I do. But to say they only built 6 houses, when they shouldn't have built ANY houses, is not the true problem.Wouldn't you want to see a detailed itemized list if where all that money actually went?

My brother, the mission of the Red Cross is not to build homes/houses/permanent settlements. How they spend their money should be investigated and audited. non profits and NGOs are some of the biggest gold bricking organizations.I hear you but for them to even let that out shows a level of arrogance.
And trust the red cross partners with many other organizations to get things built and developed.
So you saying they don't build houses isn't exactly accurate.
They are involved in getting folk out of settlements and camps, raising funds for housing developments, repairs, rentals.
Hold on i never like talking without proof. Although I actually worked in non profits let me find the red cross response

I acknowledge that’s what they are doing. But it’s not their mission. Haiti needs all the help they can get, but it stuff like this that muddles an organization’s reputationLike I said their job is not - but they do and have been involved in that aspect.

Did we plan to build more new homes? Yes, plans for three different communities of new homes funded by the American Red Cross were developed, of which two were outside of Port-au-Prince. I
