How much is too much?

I am about to buy an engagement ring because I plan on asking my girl to marry me (obviously) and I wanted a woman's opinion. How much is too much for a ring? I don't have money out tha ass, but I want to get her a really nice ring. Ladies please tell me what you think.
 
spend what you can afford if she dont like that saying oh you got me a cheap ring blah blah blah then you may as well bounce anyway because she is only about money.

I've heard:
- 1 month salary from people
- 2-3 month salary from jewelers

YEAH RIGHT!!!!

Personally I wouldn't want my guy to spend anymore than that 30-50% of 1 months salary. also I'm not big on rings n jewelery anyway.

- invest more money into your marriage than your wedding and all those things that come with it
- don't trip financially over an engagement ring. you can always go bigger as time progresses (some women really dig a bigger ring as an anniversary gift)


EDIT: I just googled average engagement ring cost and that shit said 3500-4k WTF...:smh:

it's just an engagement ring people :angry:
 
I think $1000 or less is plenty. Compare prices: Costco, your local Jewelry Exchange or wholesale jewelry center, and Walmart. Yes, Walmart. Department stores like Macy's and Tiffany's tend to cost the most and you get the least.

Also to figure out which type of ring to get her, take along her best friend or sister. They would know best what style she would prefer.

Yeah... don't go broke for it.. dont put it on a credit card.. buy what you can afford.. with that said..

buy the best quality for your money... there are 3 (or is it 4)C's to diamonds for a reason .. Cut, Clarity, & color..

agree w/ others .. put more time & effort into the relationship than money..

w/ that said good luck. I love to see black love (she is black right?) LOL

The best advice my dad ever gave me " What ever you do son, dont ever get married" . And believe me , my six foot ,jet black and good looking, six figure CPA ass aint . I've got a life in Atlanta that not only would you not believe, but one woman just cant give me on her own. And I'm not giving it up to try marriage. My divorce partners tell me dont do it , and my married partners tel lme dont do it. Marriage was fine in once upon a time, but people are too selfish and fucked in the head, to take a chance on commitment.
