I'm at 53 now (threw everything I had out during the pandemic and started over). Only about 3 sneakers in the mix though.
12 pairs at the moment.
You probably have a favourite comfortable pair you wear

Just don’t wear them
. Degradation is real tho I had a pair of Jordan 5 and Air Max 90 fail bad thisyear. Soles collapsed and everything it was embarrassing
Yeap, usually black Adidas NMDs. When they get a little beat up, they become yard shoes. I have Chukkas and dress shoes for occasions. I have a few nice Nikes that are too nice to wear. lol
That I actively wear? About 3.
I'm ashamed to count them all, I need to send some of them to the Goodwill.....
Shoes (of all kinds) have resale value on ebay. You would be surprised at what people post for sale (that actually sells)
Im down to 4 pairs now. But back in my younger days. I was up to 8, at maximum. I was in love with Nike air max plus. My favorite all time favorite was the all black air max plus leather shoes. That were slip ONS (no laces)
One of my coworkers has a few really good side hustles. He does carpet cleaning for homes & apartment buildings. He's had an industrial carpet cleaner / vacuum since the mid-2000s.
The other side hustle of the past 5 or so years ... he's got some record stores in his area. He buys stuff and resells it on Marketplace and Ebay. Usually it's older classic rock stuff. He's also an avid fisherman, and resells lots of fishing tackle, reels, etc. Like you said - you'd be surprised at what sells & for how much. I don't know what's what, or how much things are worth. But he said it goes for $$$
Probably more than 60. Maybe 4 pairs of sneaks. 10 pairs light, summer shoes. Hiking boots, water shoes.

Yeah, your co-worker knows whats up. I got some duplicate Reggae Records that i am about to throw up there myself. Anything goes on ebay.

I am definitely with you on that. There is just something about a nice clean new pair of shoes on your feet. As this is one of the first things women notice, it gets lots of traction.

Back in the 90s or earlier 2000s ... there were these Shoe Strings stores out here on the westcoast. They specialized in factory defect / flawed items. Some clothing, but the really popular stuff were the shoes. You could routinely find stuff that was priced at $100 - 150 for ten - twenty bucks. It was crazy. I recall buying stuff like Air Max, Huarache, Dunks and so on for $10 - 15.
All because maybe some of the stitching was slightly incorrect.
Wish those stores were still around ... they would easily be selling massive amounts of product, one would think.
On a somewhat related note ... was on a westcoast roadtrip back around 1993 or 1994. We stopped in at the Champion Outlet (believe it was in Eugene, Oregon). Stocked up on a bunch of stuff there like I was a kid in a candy store ... they had jerseys & thick material practice tees for $4 - 6. Bought a bunch of stuff and went back to school that fall and kids were like - "Where'd you get that?" - they were really impressed by the prices.

They weren't wrong. Plus there is nothing more painful than cheap shoes.
Yeah - he's been really pleased with the sales.
He has a pretty good schedule in that he only works Sat, Sun, and Mondays ... so he has 4 days off to chill or work his side hustles. Those vacuuming jobs can be really lucrative when he gets to set his own rates. He said some of the homes and apartments are disaster zones though.
