I agree regarding participation. It also gives you free content for search engines to chew on and drive traffic to you. Here's a a tactic I use:
One tactic that works for me is to ask questions in the blog post (not the forum post that promotes the blog post), this normally gets people to comment. Engage the readers. Offer some cheap or virtually free stuff like mentions,shoutouts, etc.
"DO FOLLOW"?
Do follow links are links that search engine spiders follow. They help you go up in rank for your selected/targeted search keyword.
Most blogs are set to no follow so all links they put on their pages to outside sites don't get crawled by Google and don't get a ranking boost.

simple suggestion: use the READ MORE option on posts..i've checked out a number of you guys blogs and it looks crowded and busy with full articles on the front page.
using the READ MORE cleans that up and makes it looks neater and easier to navigate thru..
