People like michigantoga with the unrealistically high speeds just hit the back button without clearing cookies. The highest tier of FIOS or msot any low level ISP does not have the capacity to achieve those speeds.
Those speeds are in the realm of an OPTICAL CONNECTION and would be insanely expensive!

Yeah definitely, according to cnet my d/l is 1127kbps which isn't even in the 1.5mbps range.
I always get a true accurate reading from Speednet. I d/l at a constant 1.5MB/s
A 700mb Movie is done in about 5 mins

First find out how much speed you're paying for. Is it DSL, Cable, Satellite, etc. Just because it says "High Speed Internet" doesn't mean you're receiving ultra fast speed. Time Warner offers it's standard internet which is the same speed as my Verizon 3G service 1.5mbps
There used to be speedhacks where you would increase your MTU number, but having had really fast internet for a couple years, I've haven't had the need for them.
