How do you move files from DVR to a Hard Drive?? PLEASE HELP! Porn inside!!!

I have a direct TV DVR that has USB in the back and your standard A/V and Coax input and output. Does anyone know of a website or ANY way that I can pull the files from the hard drive?

I have a video capture card but that would take way too long.

take the RCA outs from the cable box and connect them to the RCA ins of the converter

take the DV out from the converter and connect to your PC or laptop


I use this exact device to take clips and shows off the DVR all the time and use a variety of software options to capture

if you wanna do it the cheap way with minimal costs... cop this Pinnacle Dazzle joint for like $50 and use the RCA's from the cable box to it and the USB connection out to the PC

hell yeah... all depends on whatever software you're using though, but most will give you a variety of options... I use Vegas Movie Studio myself but you can always just use the basic Windows Movie Maker and then stream from the cable box to the PC using the Capture From Video Device selection in WMM

From what I know about DVR’s, the data on the HD is encrypted. Only the DVR can process the data, There’s no way to “drag and drop” programs to another device. Streaming is the only way to access the content of the HD (this helps preserve copyrighted materials).

It's a direct tv dvr...I believe with their equipment if u have it u own it.


I work for cablevision and I heard u can do it with ours with just an external HD. I'm not sure, but I'll check and let u know. Maybe it will work the same.

Here's what I found. Kinda old, but I hear it still works.

External HD Set-up for Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR

Firewire Set-up

You can't with DirecTV. You have to burn to a dvd via a dvd burner and then PLAY them to copy them to your hard drive. With DirecTV the usb ports are nonfunctioning, Also, the data is tagged so that it only works with the box & card it was recorded in. So cracking open the box and swapping the hd won't work. I tried this when my previous box went bad. I lost a lot of "saved" programs. And you don't own the box unless you purchased it. Otherwise you are renting it.

Yeah, those cable and dish companies don't enable those USB ports for a reason. To keep your ass paying for that box. I always thought it was stupid how if your DVR malfunctions and needed to be swapped out you'd lose everything.
