How do I get started with T-Shirt?

I've got an idea for a t-shirt design. I'm wondering what the first steps to get started are?
The idea I have in mind is a two color shirt with a small logo. Does anyone know of any affordable places to get something like this done?

I'm also wondering about protecting the design, maybe getting it copy wirtten. I would imagine you protect a logo, but what about a design, how does that work?

Next is selling the shirts. I'm thinking I can approach small shops and buy rack space or something like that. Or possibly get a kiosk in a mall. If I can avoid the kiosk in the begining I will.

If anyone has any info or ideas post up. I'm going to start doing some research but I wanted to hit the board first.

you can check cafepress.com. They'll support a multicolor logo. Don't know about two-toned shirt, think they only do black or white.
