How do artist make money in today's music industry?

I see you changed it to in NYC... Yeah its harder to pull in NYC because everything is so regulated and the city nothing but a network of snitches... Its still goes down in NYC but only at the executive levels...

 ain't nothing new, but if you aren't in the club or you don't have someone to walk you in :itsawrap:

Two biggest money laundering companies (street level) Boxing and Music....
20-25 yrs ago anyone with the money and hustle could promote a show at the Garden or push an artist- now? forget it
they closed door on hustlers and mom and pop promoters - LiveNation / Clear Channel is a very evil thing
Also notice how Al Haymon is slowly but surely taking over all the boxing promotions

good luck to you- cause anyone laundering is in for a surprise when ready to step over from clubs to the larger venues +2k +3k seating
I wasn't speaking for myself, let's get that clear
But money get washed thru management company, and clothing companies, by the time the artist step in a major club he already linked to big money thru these other industries, legitimately

Totally!! Shit is totally different than a lot of reasons I got in it for. Some days I feel like I should have followed my other dream and had become an architect!! LOL. Thank god I love music so much, I don't understand how people can do this shit now for any reason but the love, but it seems like most do. The human ego is a motherfucker..

I feel you bra but there is sooo much money in the industry! Now as far as being a "rapper" or hip-hop artist...no that shit dead!

People are caking on commercials, movies, video games, writing for major artists in other genres...oversees money.

The problem is when artist get in the game they fuck off their career by not evolving.

If you love music you will love everything that has to do with music..not just rap!

The music business is thriving still but the rap shit is dead.

The Illuminati is really about funneling that money from top to bottom..

Trust me bruh, it still works, matter of fact there are some acts you'd never suspect got put on like this... As a rule, the more talent the artist has the easier it is to pull off..
Oh trust me Fam I know...check it Lupe was not originally a "conscious rapper". Folks was a straight up goon gangster rapper but his team came up with the genuis ide of him changing his image to a "nerd" rapper and it worked...for awhile at least

that only happens with HELP
no one from the hood is networking into that kind of connect to start up their own thing....
someone already connected has to be involved

Ahh! Only if u knew
It goes deeper into real estate companies, limo companies, bodegas, barbar shops,
All withing the hood
Theres cats in the hood that knows damn near every major rapper personally and they still in the hood
Theres cats in the hood that celebrities leave the VIP for when they get to the club to tell the bouncer he with me
It gets real

Speech from Arrested Development also started out as not a conscious rapper. He was on some street shit, then his brother got killed.

Never knew that about speech but I knew a nigga that was an Orchestra Albany Goon before he got signed to Luke.

Not quite a goon. A pee wee more or less. And NOT by choice! Living on Sesame Street made us down whether we wanted to be or not! Ah, the late 70s!

Off topic Fam..was watching Ride the other day...did Luke have anything to do with the production of that flick? It's a cheesy joint but one of my favorites.

I know exactly what you speak of - that's the street - many rappers hustlers etc... got money flowing in businesses, but what I'm telling you is this: its not easy to get to the next level up, and the rules are set against indys

Yeah but the whole j prince situation, I thought I read it was a front for drug money
JPrince has got his fingers in everything - BUT he goes back 30 years or so with this - he broke in under very different rules than exist today, and has proven himself and organization to be CONSISTENT
for example, today his signature alone, no cash, is enough to put a date on hold at a major venue.
with that kind of pull - you can get away a lot vs what a mom and pop would have to go through

DJ's are all hustling to get their next italian car while following the rules Emmis and Clear Channel have them collared with... spend money on the DJs or a street team for nightlife and schools or even better craft a booty shaker jam and follow the breadcrumbs TallBlack dropped in this thread
