Staggering 40% of Niger’s budget comes from other countries and external institutions — EU, France, ECOWAS, regional central bank that’s controlled by France etc. Even the US gives some “aid.”
And even 70% of Niger’s electricity comes from neighbouring Nigeria, which has now turned off the supply.
Thus, if you are not a good puppet, you will be screwed by a few clicks on the computer—no need for missiles.
Other military leaders in Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea are also subjected to similar coercion.
