HOW BIG IS WAL-MART?

This should boggle your mind!!
And scare you as well!

HOW BIG IS WAL-MART?

1 . At Wal-Mart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day.

2 . This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer, and most can't speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the World.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy (including Winn-Dixie).

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are SuperCenters; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.

11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at a Wal-Mart store. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

Let WalMart bail out Wall Street!

With the economy in its slump and unemployment at a rise, we will continue to see Walmart's sales go up, particularly in this holiday season. Walmart sells necessities, and people depend on discount chains, like Walmart, for necessities. No one's going to STOP using toilet paper or NOT buy toothpaste to save a few cents. In addition, they have increased their presence overseas in markets like Japan and Mexico. Walmart is no longer a national name; it's an international name.

Good documentary on the subject.

If the government would enforces basic laws such as the Sherman Antitrust Act and rescind the Taft–Hartley Act, Walmart wouldn't have so much power over our lives!

Walmart was caught counseling their lower level managers on how to discourage Walmart workers to not vote for Democrats due to Walmart's opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act, a law being help up in congress by Walmart lobbyists. Guess what, the Dems won in a landslide. This will be a major battle in congress!

The quickest way to get people to do something is to tell them they shouldn't or can't do it. I'm sure many of the workers simply told Walmart what they wanted to hear then voted the way they wanted to. I would've done the same thing.

It's pretty crazy how such a powerhouse chooses to NOT unionize it workers. In a big powerplay by Walmart, the first store that formed an union for employees in Quebec, Canada, the store was quickly closed. Officials stated that sales were down, and the union was not helping with their unreasonable demands.

Walmart thrives because of
gluttonous American consumerism where in the aftermath of an economic implosion muhfukaz are still willing to freeze their nuts off then top it off with death all for 15-20% off a fucking Wii or 42" Plasma TV which you probably don't fucking need anyway and will probably be obsolete and'or cost half the price a year or two from now anyway.

I aint even mad at the Wal's.

In some cases, a union job is better than a NON union job. However, when it comes to department stores *a type of job that's not meant to take care a whole family* it's bound to fail.

Last time I check, majority of Wal-Mart employees are around the age of 18-30. Most 18 year olds are working there to keep a little money to either play with, or to help through school. Most of the employees in this age group tend to either find better jobs, or work in an established trade. Union is built for people who are in it for the long haul.

BTW, name some established, successful stores that have a union...

Huh?

But good point though.

Well, Wal-Mart stores are unionized in every country outside of North America. I think people expect more from Wal-mart because it is an American-made institution, and we'd expect something made by us to take better care of us

different countries have different opportunities.

Meaning, the opportunity to get a better job in the United States is greater than getting a better, well paying job, in Europe, or Asia. It makes sense for them to allow unions in other countries because the employees will simply be more dedicated to stay with Wal-Mart, than in the United States.

Not to mention, when you start having unions in a business that thrive off having the lowest price, you will end up with a Ford version of Wal-Mart.

Now, please do not get me wrong when I talk about unions. Unions are good when used right. However, many unions tend to take advantage of their power. They start hurting the same ones that they are suppose to help...

Walmart is the ultimate example of people voting against their own best interests. Their "crush all competition" mentality and across the board low wage scale is directly responsible for perpetuating the vicious cycle of the same. Workers at Walmart are purposely given less than 40 hour a week schedules so they won't qualify for certain health insurance packages and the fact that Walmart has little or no competition belie the fact that more competition will produce lower prices to the consumer. It is no accident Walmart has grown to a gargantuan size over the last 20 years. A period of unchecked corporate greed and lax business regulations. Is it any wonder why the typical worker has become more productive and paid less?

funny that you never talk about unchecked GOVERNMENT greed.....

Let me guess, a government that is run by the people cannot push for the same thing private businesses stride for?

Preach!

You say that as if govt and corporate greed aren't in it together. What makes you think it is separate? Haliburton anyone?

The difference is that if the government does something you don't like, get your ass to write your representative, campaign against them, vote their ass out! The government's main job is to up hold laws and represent people. Business's job is to turn a profit. However that is done is called business. Try and contact someone at Walmart or Exxon Mobile about a grievance you have and you will get an answering machine followed by condescending letter if your lucky. In fact, big businesses have more rights than individuals. You commit murder, you face imprisonment or worse, if a big business commits murder, no one is brought to justis or the case is litigated ad infinitum, i.e. 1984 Union Carbide in Bhopal, India. This economic morass we are experiencing is the result of businesses having to much influence in government!

BTW after Obama's three supreme court nominees take their seat on the bench, I hope he finds the opportunity to revisit the 1886 case, Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad.

Dude, have you ever talked to your representative directly? I know I haven't outside of an election cycle.

In fact, outside of election season, its harder to directly talk to anybody in congress.

Wal-mart will never roll over to unions. The only thing that a union will do to Wal-Mart is make them fire everybody, pick-up and move out of the town. :smh:

Wal-mart already classifies most of their works as "part time" even though they can really work well over 40 hours in a week. They do it to cut down on benefits and aid to the workers. You complain? They hire more people to fill your slot. It's cheaper that way.

I got cousins who work for them and it's crazy how they fuck over their employees. This is where...let me repeat for the republicans in the house ...THIS is where government is supposed to step in and say whoa, whoa, whoa...let's talk.

But what's the number one rule of a publicly traded business??? Increase shareholder profit. And what would a union or goverment sanctions do to Wal-mart's profit??? Cut it. Even if they lose 1 million of the 20 billion that is a shareholder loss and Wal-Mart will cave the chest in of anybody who tries to do that!

What other store can one go to:
1. get your oil changed
2. get new tires
3. pick up meds. that you have refilled on line (if the prescription is expired, they will call the doctor and get the refill and email you when it's ready).
4. pick up a new toilet seat
5. purchase tv series dvd's
6. oh yeah, buy all of your groceries
7. roll your shopping cart out to your car that has received new tires and an oil change

then head home.

I ain't mad a them:dance::dance: Convenience is a great thing!!

He has a public Q & A at least once a year and we corresponded twice in the last three months. May be you need to elect better representation in you district. You know damn well a Walmart district manager or director would never respond personally to a mere customer, the people that are responsible for their very existence. I rest my case!
