George RR Martin actually wrote this story from 3 different perspectives.
Fire & Blood is the overall Targaryen story that we're seeing in the show.
The Princess & the Queen goes more into Alicent & RiRi's stories.
And The Prince of the City is the Damian focused retelling. Maybe that last book would be more to your liking.
Like other have said tho, he isn't supposed to be the main character. No one is the MAIN character. Martin doesn't do main characters or clear cut villians & heroes.
I read fire and blood so I know what's going to happen. We know George loves killing off characters but he doesn't have much to do with this show and Rhaenyra is clearly the main character of this series
Oh George just wait until the completely unnecessary season 2. The first season already ran thru all the source material so I'm guessing the writing and character quality of Shogun season 2 will take a noticeable downward slide i.e. GoT seasons 6-8.
