Im looking into getting my first home within the upcoming months in the NY area. Which would you guys recommend for a bachelor in his mid 20's for his first buying experience: single family, townhouse, condo, co-op? Looking to spend under 200,000 and probably live there until I get married within the next five years.

If you want no maintenance like cutting grass, etc, go condo or townhouse. If you don't mind, a house is always a better investment for the privacy of not having to share a wall or stairwell or driveway with others. I own a house and live alone, and it's a lot of work sometimes. I'm considering going high-rise and cutting out the maintenance.

Buy a townhouse. Condos are the hardest to sell in a crash. Sometimes the Fees become too ridiculous. Some Townhomes of Fees too so watch out for that shit. A house or Townhouse is good if you don't mind dealing with maintenance. You get a little back yard and you can have a little BBQ now and then.
