Hank Williams, Jr. says 'sorry' for comparing Obama to Adolf Hitler
Hank Williams Jr. offered up a mea culpa Tuesday night for comparing President Obama to Hitler.
The legendary country crooner posted the apology on his website after backing out of a scheduled Fox News interview.
"I have always been very passionate about politics and sports and this time it got the best or worst of me," he wrote, in a statement he indicated was crafted by him and "not written by some publicist."
"The thought of the Leaders of both parties jukin and high fiven on a golf course, while so many families are struggling to get by simply made me boil over and make a dumb statement and I am very sorry if it Offended anyone," Williams said.
The 62-year-old singer's controversial remarks were made during an appearance on Fox and Friends Monday morning. Williams mentioned that Obama and the Senate Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) played a few rounds of golf, and called it a "mistake."

"That turned a lot of people off. It just didn't go over," he said. Then Williams added, "That would be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli prime minister Benjamin] Netanyahu."
As way of explanation for his remarks, Williams said Tuesday via his website in a second posting, "My analogy was extreme - but it was to make a point."
He said the idea of Obama and Boehner playing golf together was "stupid."
"How ludicrous that pairing was," he said. "They're polar opposites and it made no sense. They don't see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the President."
