The reason that Bill was so well recieved by the poor is because much of what he tried to do in his early career was mostly for the benefit of the poor and/or mispresented. Hilary was mostly known for her co-sign and active voice in Clinton's proposed (and rejected) Healthcare Reform plan. I'll get to the fact that you don't see what the Clinton Admin did for blacks in a moment. First, I want to address this 'picking cotton' thing...
Kind of tough to make the point when you don't have evidence or facts to back it up. What did Bill do for black people? SAY IT MAN! I didn't ask what he attempted to do. But when you find out or find somebody who knows what his specific achievement was were WE are concerned, just post it up. That's all. Just post it.
1. First, ALL I care about is African American advancement. For all intents and purposes, I'm a 'back-to-africa' radical.
Meaning packing up and moving to Africa? To what end would that serve again? Not a serious question, I think I understand your point.
We don't get SHIT from this country but handouts, and I'm all about blacks standing up and TAKING what they want. So most of what i say will usually come from that perspective.
Seems to me going back to Africa sounds like running from a fight but ok. Let's move on. Again, I'm joking.
That said, assuming that a black man will actually be ALLOWED to change the nation, much of what Barak will encounter should he become president is demanding respect from the rest of the world. Granted, respect earning is something that every president has to go through. However, despite most nation's traditional stance on butting out of American domestic politics, Australian Prime Minister John Howard had NO PROBLEM butting with his public outcry undermining Barak's promise to pull troops out of Iraq by 2008. Obviously, this is something that YOU JUST DON"T DO, and clearly is an outward lack of respect against Obama in an attempt to not only keep him and his viewpoints out of office but to outwardly yell, "Fuck You Nigga".
I didn't get that comment from the Prime Minister as you did but Barak isn't pulling shit out of Iraq when he's president. Barak is a leftist liberal playing hard to the leftist liberals in the democrat party. Those in the center, left of center and on the right are all giving him a raised eyebrow at that. Not because he can do that but because it's a flat out lie. Not even the democrats who ran and now control the congress is talking that shit now. They lied to voting democrats that they would end this war if elected but now none of that matters anymore. Get ready for a rash of long legal battles to become the order of the day from democrats, hoping media attention to it drowning out the campaign rhetoric to end this war.
Now am I saying that as a black people, we shouldn't TRY? Of course not. However, I wonder how much more effective Barak would be, ie, how much less would he have to battle THAT and be about the business of politics, if he had an 'internship' as Vice President?
I've heard that one a few times from Bill Clinton supporters but not from people who truly support Hillary. I still maintain the main reason she gets this attention is because of who she's married to and not because of who she is.
2. Contract With America was a hastily devised tactic by Republicans to take control of the Congress just before the second Clinton term. While it is true that some of the contract seemed beneficial and even inspired later ideas that Clinton used later (such as welfare reform), it's arguable that Republicans even honored much of the contract once they had control. The idea was that if America voted to give Republicans control of the House of Representatives, there would be this glorious series of good deeds outlined in their Contract with America that they would do once we let them in. "Honest".
Welfare reform was not a Clinton idea but you are right Clinton used it at the nudging of Dick Morris. Morris's idea was Bill had to do something to keep the impeachment voices quiet. And you can argue how honest a politician is but not with me. I don't trust none of them. If their mouths are moving they are lying. However hastily developed the contract was, two things in it floated a shit load of boats. One was welfare reform, the other was that big capital gains tax cut. Bill's idea was to raise taxes on the top wage earners. Something he later admitted he may have raised them too much. But as you may or may not know, it never affects the top. They pass that cost onto those who could least afford to pay it and it isn't a damn thing the president can do about it.
If you actually take a look at the contract, it's a blueprint for much of the bullshit America is in today. For example: The Taking Back our Streets act was a 'crackdown' on violent criminals that promoted new prison construction, highlighted a violent prisoner incarceration act, and promoted additional law enforcement. All of these things sound fantastic on paper until you actually look at the implementation and see 'who benefits'. More police on the street is a good thing, right? Well, combined with an increase in jails and a push for courts to gather 'violent' offenders, and you have to fill these new expensive prisons that you're building. If they MUST be filled, and quickly, who the hell do you think they're going to fill them WITH? It's arguable that they're getting violent criminals off the street, so bully for them regardless of color. However, when most of these criminals are THIRD STRIKERS, and third strike usually being on a NON VIOLENT crime, well you certainly have a blueprint for disaster. This has already happened.
I didn't know that safe streets was a bad thing. And you do know the 3 strikes thing was part of the Omnibus crime bill pushed by Bill Clinton right? But you already know that.
The Common Sense Legal Reform act was enacted to curb 'frivolous' lawsuits against corporations and businesses. Do I really need to go into why big business doesn't need protection against the small guy? Do we really need to protect the Tobacco industry like THAT? It was masked as a way to protect small companies and start-up in fear of potentially bankrupt-making lawsuits. Using the 'hot coffee' lady as a lightning rod, the act seemed like it made sense at the time. Admittedly, Clinton vetoing the act forced Republicans to come up with the more realistic Private Securities Litigation Reform Act.
I think the law was well intended as it relates to protecting a company or individuals to spend money defending stupid lawsuits. Like the guy who sued a homeowner of a house he was burglarizing. He sued because he could not open the garage door to get out he was forced to eat dogfood for 8 days until the homeowners returned home from vacation. (that burglar won if you didn't know that story) But I will admit I've never read the fine print of all that was in that securities legislation.
Fuck...this is turning into a paper. This is a fucking porno board, and I'm not poli-sci guy. All I'm saying ultimately is that Hilary put in work under the Clinton Admin. She signed off or had a hand in much of what Bill Clinton takes credit for. If you're arguing that Bill didn't do much for the poor, look at his Healthcare reform that TRIED to get healthcare for ALL people. Look at his attempts to beef up the military by allowing gays in the military (but admittedly not acknowledging gay marriage).
Yes it is turning into a paper. lol. But again what work was put in? Many don't agree and still don't that the tax payer should be
forced to pay for everybody elses health care beyond what they are already paying. Not a lot of us want a socialized medical system such as what they have in Canada.
And that's bullshit that Clinton tried to beef up the military. Clinton was dealing with
BRAC. Closing / idoling bases and reducing expenditures to many of the intelligence agencies. Where are you getting this shit from playa? If you don't remember, trust me I DO remember.
Look at his tax break policies. The biggest difference between Bill's tax break and THe Contract's is that Bills rewarded people on the LOWER ended of the economic bracket by offering bigger breaks (if you had kids), and the higher your familial income was, the less credit you recieved.
Back in the 90's, when many blacks (and much of America) was struggling as lower middle class, this was heavenly. However, as the new millennium pretty much killed the middle class and split America into the poor and the rich (with a respectable number of blacks being on the RICH end), it's easy to look back and see that reform like that doesn't have any benefit for them once they made it OUT of the economic 'ghetto'.
That's quite a jumble man. Let me get you to parse that before I answer. Both houses vote on tax legislation and it is reconciled before it becomes law.
ULTIMATELY, what was the result of that legislation the Clinton Administration pushed for that benefited US? You keep talking about what he wanted to do and how people loved him but what
long term, party proof policy pushed by Clinton that was a benefit to us???
I'm living here in California, and at the time, I worked in affluent Westlake Village amongst MANY priviledged white boys. It angered me that much of what they griped about were the taxes that penalized the wealthy. People always question that if I have money, wouldn't I hate to give it away? I argue that EVERYBODY has to give their money away. When I make considerable money, there are MANY ways to give that meets governmental requirements. There are even a few that meets the requirements that warm my SOUL.
Well, no. If I make the money, I make it because I worked hard to make it. I stayed up studing shit I don't care about to get the best grades, to give me the best chance, at the best jobs, and the best pay I can get.
Now, if I am blessed to get 6 figures, I got it because I worked hard towards that goal. Should you determine for me how much I am allowed to keep?
No you don't!
In this country and in this culture you can make as much or as little as you want. That Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness thing. It isn't the role of the government to look at my pay check and tell me I'm taking home too much so I'll take x amount and shut the fuck up, you can afford it. If you go back to Carter, just before Reagan, the top tax rate was 71 percent. I cannot imagine having to give up to the government 71 cents for every dollar I make. This was 40 years of one party rule doing this and fuck if I want to go back to that again.
On balance playa, I appreciate the debate.
Now back the porn!
