Hey Thought1 - Taxes?

Let me say from the jump, I'm not a Paul Ryan fan but he spoke some truth to Jo BiteMe last night. Isn't it a little clearer why raising taxes is never a credible solution to reign in wasteful spending? Let me go workout, I'll be back

Look, if you taxed every person and successful business making over $250,000 at 100 percent, it would only run the government for 98 days. If everybody who paid income taxes last year, including successful small businesses, doubled their income taxes this year, we'd still have a $300 billion deficit. You see? There aren't enough rich people and small businesses to tax to pay for all their spending.

And so the next time you hear them say, "Don't worry about it, we'll get a few wealthy people to pay their fair share," watch out, middle class, the tax bill's coming to you. - Paul Ryan

This is not truth, this is a well rehearsed talking point.
Distort the opposition's position and argue against that instead of their real position which is pretty damn strong.
No one is against cutting spending. It is the Republican created view that it's an either/or proposition and it's not.
The proven method of closing deficits, by Democratic and Republican administrations and Congresses, has been cut spending and raise revenue. The most sound way to do both in one action is to end the Bush tax cuts because tax cuts are spending and a huge driver of the deficit.

It's already been proven; when the govt cuts taxes, receipts go up. JFK, and later Reagan proved this. I'm not looking at this from a Repub / Den angle, I'm looking at the numbers. Which is the reason I agree with Ryan, on this instance. He said you could take 100% of their income in taxes and we would still have a deficit! If this is not true, help me understand. The deficit is over 1 Trillion dollars a year, that's a lot of dough and the people Obama & BiteMe are targeting mathematically do not have it.

I would be careful with this wording if I were you. That phrasing makes it an absolute. The behavior changing elements of the tax change doesn't depend on the direction but instead on the magnitude of the change.

I believe JFK cut top rates from 90% to 70% and Reagan went from 70% to 50%. Those were impact changes. The same impact wouldn't had been achieved if JFK went to 89% or Reagan went to 69%.

What Democrats and Republicans are arguing about is from 35% to 40%. It's not likely to be as detrimental as you think or as beneficial as others think.

:D its Friday, he might feel like putting some of that "knowledge" on display.

So <STRIKE>Thought1</STRIKE>

Seeing how I think you're a smart debater than Ryan, please refrain from repeating his garbage strawman arguments.
