I want to start my own business and I have a few questions. I found some articles, but they really don't seem to help much. Hopefully you guys, especially those that have gone through this already, can help me out. Can anyone direct me to a site that has some good information on forming an LLC or give me a brief run down on getting one together.

Also, what must I budget as a startup cost. Filing fees, running the ad in a publication, etc.

What are the main benefits and disadvantages to an LLC. My business will be web/graphic design, as well as photography services.

Oh and one questions I have yet to find the answer to: Can your home address be the same as the address on the form for your business address. This will be until I can rent office space.

What programs do you guys use and/or suggest for tracking business profits and expenses. As well as tracking estimated taxes.

And overall, has setting up an LLC been profitable for you?

If you live in the state of Georgia, forming an LLC is extremely easy.

All you have to do is go to the Secretary of State Karen Handel's website and fill out the application. The fee is $100.

Once that application is filled out online, you may have to wait for 24 hours, but you will get your Articles of Incorporation back- signed by the Secretary of State in Georgia, in your Inbox via PDF.

Simple!

Oh, and then you can just go get your EIN at the IRS website immediately. And lastly, print out your Articles of Incorporation along with that EIN to the bank and get a business account.

Voila! You're a business owner! (In Georgia!)

As far as keeping track of your financial data. I love quickbooks all begining level accounting programs should work fine. Quickbooks is very user friendly if you have limited accounting knowledge you can right checks and take deposits and do all your financial reporting.

If you are starting a retail business quickbooks point of sale works great it integrates with quickbooks so you can scan in your inventory and scan items at sale. It also has a cash register so all your finance data is kept in real time. For small retail shops it works quite well.

Start-up costs depend on the business your starting most established companies like to have three months of operating capital for knew ventures for a brand new company optimal would be 5-6 months of operating capital. That means you can run your business for six month with zero additional income. But this is business specific so depending on the business you will have different break even marks.
