I read somewhere that if you need a degree to sell something, you are in the wrong business. The MBA, Master of Business Administration has been around since 1881, which coincides with the beginning of the mass corporatization of America (see Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad). Now after 30 years of Voodoo Economics the shit has hit the fan. We need to get back to creating our wealth by working and making tangible stuff, not sitting on our asses speculating.

The US economy became a services based economy during the late 80s and continues to be that largely. US relinquished its title as the world's manufacturer a long time ago. What were the 90s all about? High tech companies and service industries expanding - NOT auto/steel manufacturers.

Which is good thing because the pay is higher and more education is required for service based jobs. Problem is that the rest of the world is catching up in terms of education and technology, like India, so much of our services jobs are going oversees (outsourcing phenomenon of the early 2000s).

Now, the US is getting beat twice. Can't compete with the manufacturers nor the service providers.

The U.S. economy [if you want to call it that, how can a country be 9 trillion in debt and still have a economy] is paying for wrong thinking by the elites. Whether you call it manufacturing, service, or whatever our economy is just a few people thinking they know whats best for the world. This country has gone a thru Civil War, Civil Rights War, 2World Wars, several recessions and this same class of people [if you can call them people] are still making decisions. When Mick Vick was facing charges for dog fighting people where in the streets calling for blood, there's a boycott on Oprah for not having Sarah on her show, but those same people are not saying a thing about this country being ruined and therein lies the problem.

The question posed by a professor on the first day of business school, "Is it possible to teach experience?" The belief that it is possible to teach experience is the basis for The Case Method. The corollary question each student must answer for himself is, "Can I learn from someone else's experience, or must I experience it myself?" That is the difference between classroom education and apprenticeship.

Note: Teaching experience is one thing; teaching intelligence is something else.

Degrees are just used as screening mechanisms for these trans-national corporations. If you have one, you could possibly get into the door. You hit the nail on the head by saying we need to get back to making things. I remember Ross Perot debating Al Gore regarding NAFTA: Ross said "If you don't make nothin, you can't buy nothin". We became the wealthiest nation in the world through manufacturing and saving. That has been squandered in the last 20-30 yrs as our focus has shifted to borrowing to consume!

We must also examine the reasons businesses wanted to leave the country and outsource the work: Too many taxes and regulation. NAFTA, CAFTA, the WTO do not work in the best interest of American companies.

Not to be controversial but do you think China is trying to drum up support for some kind of "green" revolution? Na, they too busy makin stuff! From my past posts, ya'll know I don't support the stimulus programs, however, if the money would be allocated for the private sector to purchase assets that would generate capital, I'd be all in! Again, I agree with you: We need to get back to making things and exporting.

Of course, you are right.

However, the US has adopted the British Free Trade System or Globalization.

Basically, the moneyed interests in this country do not want people here to be self-sufficient. They want everything specialized so no one country can depend on itself and all countries must depend on the central banking system that the white boys control.

This is why this country will not be producing anything anytime soon and in fact, this process of deindustrializing the country will continue!
