WTF kind of shit is this?

Apple "genius" says replace mother board 3-5 days

I can't afford to not have my machine for that long.

Time = money right now

Once I have it plugged into power, I can use the laptop even though it shows "Not charging".

But once I unplug the power cord, the battery life decreases. Right now I'm at 9% :smh:

Anyone else had this happen?

How did you resolve this?

new battery?

green led = charger getting power

computer on with ac = notebook getting power

battery not charging and loss of battery life = bad battery?

or did i miss something?

Its the charger.
Get a new one, but first take it in to the mac store and have them plug in one of their chargers to test it.
I'm pretty sure its the charger but check it anyway.

do you have the battery symbol with an X through it?

Just came from Apple.

They replaced the battery and same shit ($129)

Now they want to change out the mother board ($280)

These geniuses just want to swap parts until something works.

Where are the technical people these days?

:confused::confused::confused:

This happen to me once, it's time to pray cause that new battery is like $130. I tried a new power cord and it starting charging then but it only charges to like 60% now. I know I'm gonna have to buy a new battery 1 day :smh:

whats your cycle count and battery health condition?
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1519

did they run a hardware test in store
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509

Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 469
Fully charged: No
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 4869
Health Information:
Cycle count: 390
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 11137

They ran a hardware check and said that there was a power problem.

Replaced the battery and same shit.

Now they want to replace the motherboard.

Whats good?

The majority of responses are saying the battery, which could hold true. Do you have the original factory battery and charger?

Yep.

Apple "genius" also replaced the battery and same problem.

"not charging" shown in the power icon

What happened to the old days with the guys with a solder iron and shit?

Try this:
Reset the SMC and the problem was corrected. Took 2 minutes.

Shutdown your system
pull out the battery
press and hold power button for 5 seconds (I gave it 7 seconds “just in case”).
Pop battery back in, connect to power (via magsafe), and power on.

smc reset yet?

hmm thats all i can think of besides doing your own hardware test
just to verify their findings. Logic board replacement seems a little odd..good luck fam

Yeah sounded like a hustle.

I'm an old tech head (did Tv repair in high school etc) so y spidey senses was going.

Back in the days, mofos would tell people "flyback transformer" for everything :smh:

let me do that SMC reset and see.

Thanks all.

I'm come back and drop the results so that other people may benefit

:clap::clap::clap:

The likely culprit is a failed or failing battery. On the retina joints, the batteries are not swappable. You have to send it in . . . That's why I didn't upgrade to a retina MBP.

If I own it, I NEED to have maximum access and flexibility to MY device. If you live in NY . . . go to the 24 store around 1-2 am . . . they might be able to help you on the spot as they won't be as busy. I've had some success at the 'idiot' bar doing this.

Hope this is helpful.

*EDIT* Looks like you tried the battery replacement . . . but did they use YOUR power adapter or theirs?

I'll take it in to Keane tomorrow, fuck Apple genius

I' can use the laptop with the power cor plugged in.

I have no idea what would happen after it hits 0% and I try to plug it in.

:smh:

For now it's stalled on 3% while I have it plugged in

Reading some reviews, Apple store is a ripoff + 3-5 days?

:smh:
