Some friends co-signed a student loan for their granddaughter. Now that she is out of school she is unemployed and has not made any payments on the loan. Fanny Mae came after the co-singers and they are making payments. Yet they are being harassed with calls 5 to 8 times per day 7 days a week from 8 AM to 7 PM.

My question is what are the laws… what can they do to stop the calls. These people are in their 70’s and on a fixed income doing their best.

Any help or advice is appreciative.

Have them call Debt Stoppers. I know someone who used them and had success. Not sure about the fee charge.

Have they talked to them about income sensitive repayments? If they are on a fixed income they should be able to get the payments lowered a lot.

Also, has the grand daughter exhausted her forbearances? Student loans are rough.

This is great info... Did not know that a forbearances could be done... Sounds right...
