HBO has set a premiere date for "We Own This City." Filmed in Baltimore last fall, the miniseries is based on former Sun reporter Justin Fenton's book

I need time to think but so far?

Jenkins ain't even really full out racist

I mean he is but look how he likes black women his friends and staff are black

He actually seems good at his job?

If he wasn't a racist prejudiced monster he could STILL DO HIS JOB effectively

He is the worst kind of racist...

He KNOWS BETTER and rationalizes his bigotry

This show is so important

We were raised in a generation where we were taught to romantize the "rouge" cop

Just bending the rules to get the job done

But this ain't law and order dirty Harry or the shield

We seeing the REALITY of that type of police

And just how damaging to the overall public consciousness making bad cops appear GOOD in media is.

Dude stole money from a Stripper. And took the pills from rite aid that the looters were about to steal.

And as for the safe scene, that was 100% fact.

"you robbed a midget stripper?"
So how many awards is this series going to win?
as many as the Wire...

but Hwood loves Berenthal, so maybe they will see and nominate this series

And this fella’s is the reason why We own the city series is Way better than all of 50 PowerBook, and damn near halfway top to Snowfall 4 episodes in vs 5seasons of Snowfall! Watching We own the city damn near feels you right there in person. Anybody who been to Baltimore know those plain clothes White cops are JUST LIKE THAT.. street smart with lil swag ( not typical white guy quirky shit)

That's why he was allowed to get away with it while they turned a blind eye.

White cop getting guns off the street and locking up niggas at a high clip = Good at his job, especially in a majority blk city like Baltimore.

All this really got uncovered because of the freddie gray riots.

No riots = Wayne Jenkins gets "fired" but ends up being a cop somewhere else where he can lock up mo niggas with impunity.

So the thing about Jenkins being good at his job is very subjective. They mentioned on the show that as long as his unit brought in at least 1 gun per week, the department was happy. In a city with 300+ murders and who knows how many other non-fatal shootings, pulling 1 gun a week off the streets is a pretty low bar to cover. They could check the storm drains in certain areas and recover that much.

There's a line in this episode that caught me, it's were the detective states that "Wayne had a thing about black males over 18 with a bookbag", anytime he saw that they would jump out on them. That is the definition of racial profiling. And what makes it worse is that we know that white people have a habit of aging up black children, so there's no telling how many black male juveniles were stopped and harassed by Jenkins and company either coming or going to school. Maybe the only reason they didn't get caught with that is that by the time most of this shit takes place, the Baltimore public schools had all switched to uniforms, so maybe Jenkins didn't bother you if you were wearing khaki pants on a weekday.

But I will tell a story on how this profile definitely could have gotten someone killed. A friend of mine from high school attended Morgan State, an HBCU in NE Baltimore. At the time, he was on the Dean's List, Phi Beta Kappa, and literally that day he was having lunch with the University's President. As he's leaving, not 5 minutes from campus, a plainclothes drug unit boxes in his car, and within seconds at his window there is and I'll quote "a dumbass rookie pointing a gun with his hands trembling". The cops order him to exit the vehicle, and thankfully my friend was levelheaded enough not to move until they got the nervous rookie away from his window. They pull him out the car, slam him on the ground, search the car and come up empty. Now at this point, they have to justify this illegal stop, so they charge him with failure to obey because he 1) didn't move out of fear of the rookie shooting him and 2) he didn't immediate lay on the ground once they got him out the car (the ground was wet from rain and he was wearing dress clothes because of his lunch). They booked him on that bullshit charge, but luckily for my friend, in addition to being a honor student at an HBCU, he also interned for a City Councilman. He called the councilman's office and they sent someone down to get him out of lockup and that's when the cops realized they fucked up because they had harassed a black kid who happened to know someone who mattered. My buddy didn't pursue anything beyond an apology but that type of profiling that Jenkins was doing is what gets people killed.
