HBO Ballers all seasons Official discussion thread

I’m amazed at two things.

1. How this show went from OK to must see.

2. How in the fuck did they get all of these teams to allow to the licensing of their team likeness. I remember that “Playmakers” couldn’t get any assistance from the league... and here is USC allowing access in an episode that looks at Pay for play and the NCAA.

Bruh, I'm wondering the same thing. You'd think most D1 schools especially a HUGE school like USC would want to avoid that topic on their campus at all costs.... Like any semblance of it. But damn if this ish isn't pretty damm good now.

Dwayne filmed like 5 movies between last season and this season... This dudes work ethic is insane. And he's making money on the films..... I thought he would be done with this show after season 2

Someone explained it in this thread years ago I think...

Here’s why The Rock’s new HBO show, 'Ballers,' can legally use NFL logos without the league’s consent

show has been uninspiring this season...it’s the same formula/storyline w/ different settings and some new characters
you are wrong...

this season is a bit different- its not like the previous seasons where Spencer is taking financial risks to get ahead and Ricky is out of control...

Ricky has shown real growth and maturity compared to previous seasons

the biggest change this year is the stuff Spencer is doing risks jail time for himself and loss of NFL licensing for Joe and could put the agent's licence including bar / law membership at risk. In the process Spence also broke his word to his friend (agent)

This ep the agent just caught a hint of a tiny whiff of whats going on and he was pissed - if he knew everything he would cut off Spence. If Joe knew everything Spencer was upto - he would walk too.

no...I’m not...I wanted to be fair and watch the last ep which I just finished prior to responding even tho my comment was regarding the season up til now...spencer and the bald dude have been taking financial risks all season...w/ their $$$...players’ investment $$$ and now the 2 old white brothers...all in an effort to get further ahead...and ricky is clearly out of control...his heart is in the right place but the twitter rant shows his head is not lol...the plot twist in this last ep representing a new element of danger for spence was a bit exciting tho so I’ll give you that...that was indeed a “bit different”

that wasn't a plot twist at the end... that was just a natural progression - Spence has been blatantly breaking laws for a few episodes now - in a very sloppy way - so Ohio is pulling his card to get what they want
(also - that entire meeting at Ohio was fubar- in that sequence they really showed how naive and careless Spencer is)

from the minute Spencer asked the mother to speak with the kid he put his and Joe's NFL licence at risk along with the agent's law license (rewatch ep1 and listen to what he told the mom)

when he went to USC with the kid and was trying to leverage the kid for TV rights that's when he openly crossed the line from financial risk to criminal risk

thats why in this ep the older Anderson brother was surprised and told Spence he went from being a little dirty to full muddy

As for Ricky - that party and tweet showed growth when compared to where he was in season 1

that wasn't a plot twist at the end...

I disagree...it’s part of the plot twist that stemmed from dude announcing he was leaning toward being a “buckeye”...if you also want to refer to it as a “natural progression” that’s fine...it’s natural for a story to have a couple plot twists

actions have consequences... for 2 episodes Spence has been breaking various criminal laws in addition to breaking NCAA and NFL rules

Ohio can not be a twist when its a foreseeable consequence to Spenser's previous choices and sloppiness

it could be ironic but not a twist - consider the end of Carlito's Way vs end of Sixth Sense

If a character starts dealing drugs or pimping its not a twist for a gang to extort them or for a cop to shake them down

Ohio can not be a twist when its a foreseeable consequence to Spenser's previous choices and sloppiness

the dude randomly bringing up that LBJ convinced him to go to ohio state and subsequently having to deal w/ the full brunt of OSU was not “foreseeable”...that is a specific plot twist...a plot twist does not necessarily have to be as dramatic as the sixth sense nor does it have to occur @ the end of a flick and yes they can be predictable to an extent

NCAA, Fuck that shit.

Baseball, don’t matter if you good in college lol.

If I had a son lil nigga would be crushin hits, jeter

extremely repetitive story !! Everytime he attempts to accomplish something he gets screwed over .Some big wigs come out the woodwork and say hey stop that motherfucker and they stop him.
Season ends with him saying ahh man fuck it im going to accomplis....wash rinse repeat

adversity/conflict is the backbone of every good story but idk something about it seems formulaic w/ this show imo...haven’t watched this ep tho...things did get interesting a little last ep but I can bet spence “and the gang” will come away unscathed and not face any real consequences

i like the message stuff....

expose all the fuckery ....i know the NFL & the NCAA pissed...

especially speaking on the kneeling ...cacs probably canceled HBO behind that shit...lol

Yeah that's basically every show lol
The difference is with this one he doesn't always succeed
Cause he damn sure don't own the raiders if I recall correctly
And after last night hardly accomplished anything positive
