HBCU...DAMN!!!!

Calling a secondary dance line "The new face of Ozempic" is not helping these girls.

Real help for their weight will come from doctors, trainers, and people who can give these girls a meal plan, an exercise plan that can help them get on the road to making better choices.

Do you want to really help them or do you want to just rib them because you don't like them.
Duece, I dont know them not to like them. As any counselor will tell you.....one has to come to grips with reality (esp the reality of the world we live in) in order to start helping themselves. you cant save a person from themselves if they are living in delusion. The first step is to get them out of their current mind state. once that is done, then they can really begin solving their personal problems, otherwise coddling them doesnt begin to help them...SOMETIME PEOPLE HAVE TO BE SHOCKED OUT OF THEIR DELUSIONAL STATE. this serves as that shock. sometimes the most needed medicine is bitter, doesnt taste well, nor feel good when you take it.....but it serves the most dire need of getting that person to a better well being. even a drug addict will tell you that until they hit rock-bottom, nothing anyone does can help them. they have to hit that hard place before they will change.....best quote i ever heard was "It is only at the precipice of destruction that man has his greatest compacity for change." this destruction or embarrassment has started with the announcers comment.

Nigga shut up. Dude called a bunch of women fat in front of an entire stadium of people. If that same dude would of called you a little bitch in the same environment I bet you'd want to fight.
THE TRUTH HURTS ....DONT IT BITCH!!!! :beatyourass: go cry in your hyundai and stop being a butt hurt hog chaser and recognize the reality of the world we live in. see my previous post if you can read higher than an elementary cretin with low self esteem...

Wait wait wait. Did you type all this shit including bold and colors??

Nigga do you have any clue how weird that shit makes you look?

Some of you dudes on here spend too much time trying to dog out women and no time at all getting laid by women.

The idea that some of you niggas think this shit is ok and will somehow motivate these women is the stupidest shit I've ever heard, putting these women on the spot, having it go viral, subjecting them to the vitriol of racists and incels on the internet has rarely motivated people to do better, if anything it has played a part in people getting worse and even taking their own lives. I'm sure it played a part in Kyren Lacy taking his own life.

These women are dancers; they obviously practice and exercise, probably more than the average BGOL couch potato, and once again, this idea of fat women getting their heads gassed up and becoming overconfident is bullshit and a personal boogie man you created in your own head, all of you are men, you are in control of your surroudings and who is allowed in them at all times, the likelyhood of you being pursued some overconfident, annoying fat girl is slim to none and if you are dealing with such a woman, it's because you brought her into your circle and the blame falls on you.

Finally, we need to acknowledge that women's bodies are different from men's. The gain and loss of weight is brought on by different factors many times and you can't assume every woman is just a lazy slob.

I'm gonna keep it real, because that's disrespectful as fuck to tell them that with everyone being able to listen to it whether it was a joke or not.

A lot of you cappin ass niggas on BGOL be saying wild shit on here knowing damn well if someone said some shit about your daughters like that which some of you niggas would be ready to fight that person.

It's about morals and respect that a person needs to obey on their job because that motherfucka should be fired for what he said.

It's easy to joke about his shit on BGOL because most of you niggas thinking everything is funny when it's not.

It's a time for everything and this wasn't the time for those slick smart remarks to those young ladies.

Yes, there's a obese problem, parent's not encouraging their kids to eat healthy and exercise which needs to change but most of you niggas with daughters I would bet eat like shit as well having weight issues.

Like the old saying, if you don't have "noting nice to say, don't say nothing at all"

But check this out. If Dave Chappelle had made the same shit the announcer had said......we would all be laughing. I'm not saying dude didn't pick the wrong place, audience, time, etc to say that shit. I'm saying that shit ain't earth shattering.

His remarks were in terrible taste for the event. That's some shit you say at a family or neighborly event.

Cats are trippin.

Yall are acting like these young ladies dont get clowned at every fucking performance they do in front of large audiences.

Like I said earlier in the thread, this dance troupe is supposed to be a parody/satire of the real ASU dance troupe.

Are they to be taken seriously or to make people laugh?

Cats are in here catching feelings over people laughing at literal clowns/jesters.

At the HBCU that I went to in the 90s, this group would have been a running gag to make the crowd laugh. (but letting them perform at an away game would have been a huge misstep)

Sorry, that is HBCU culture.....clowning is a thing.

Jesters or not....seriously...they need to fucking lose some weight and are far too heavy for their age.....

People are saying "what if your daughter was out there".

Man, let me tell you a story.

I used to wonder why my 2nd grade daughter would come home and start doing exercises in the middle of the TV room...trying to exert herself.

Then, I found out that there was a fatty in her class and she was trying not to be like the fat girl.

My daughter used to watch that fat girl struggle and made the decision to ensure that she would not turn out like the fatty.

BTW....So at what point do we start telling fat chicks the truth?

This is the softer and gentler BGOL.

:smh:

Bruh, that dance squad is fucking embarrassing and should not exist.

Are they meant to be taken seriously because, in all honesty, I thought that they were satire of the real ASU dance squad.

Are they comic relief? Are they supposed to be the butt of jokes?

Why would his comment be offensive if this is the case?

My school used to face ASU back in the late 90s and we never saw this fat dance squad.
Agreed. This the DEI of cheerleading. He said what everyone was thinking. Can it be 4 biggunz and a skinny one for diversity, or is the skinny chick horning in on THEIR thing? How do you work hard at everything BUT your weight? Grades, tuition, stretching, routines, hair, makeup, on and on, but be obese? Nobody wants to be mean and say why OP said—those women are NOT to be celebrated for THAT.

When Entertainment Crosses a Line: What the FAMU ‘Ozempic’ Joke Says About Fatphobia in HBCU Culture

After a FAMU announcer made a dig at Alabama State’s plus-size Honey Beez dancers, the backlash revealed a deeper issue within our own community: how we talk about — and respect — Black women’s bodies.

If you’ve ever been to an HBCU game, you know the halftime show is sacred. It’s where bands become legends, majorettes turn routines into religion, and announcers transform into griots — narrating the magic of Black performance. But sometimes, that commentary crosses from celebratory to cruel.
That’s what happened when longtime Florida A&M University band announcer Joe Bullard made an on-mic jab at Alabama State University’s Honey Beez, the school’s plus-size dance team. According to the New York Post, Bullard joked that the Honey Beez were “the new face of Ozempic,” referencing the popular weight-loss drug, as the dancers took the field during the October 2025 game.
The crowd’s reaction was mixed — some laughed, others groaned — but online, it was swift. Within hours, clips spread across X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, with current and former HBCU students calling the remark disrespectful and rooted in the same anti-Black fatphobia mainstream culture already hurls at us daily.
What makes this sting more than your average off-color joke is where it happened. HBCUs are supposed to be the antidote to the wider world’s judgment — spaces that affirm, uplift, and celebrate the full range of Blackness. The Honey Beez, in particular, have become icons for that very reason. Since their founding, the team has represented inclusivity and body confidence, proving that athleticism and beauty don’t come in one size. Their routines are joyful, fierce, and unapologetically Southern.
So when that stage — the one place they should be celebrated without ridicule — turned into a punchline, it struck a nerve.

Alabama State President Stands Up for Plus-Size Dance Group ‘Honey Beez’ After Halftime Remark

This wasn’t just about one man’s comment. It was about how even in Black spaces, we still internalize the same narrow beauty standards that tell Black women to shrink themselves — literally and figuratively — to be worthy of respect.
The “Ozempic” joke lands differently when you consider how policing Black women’s bodies has always been a public sport. From school dress codes targeting curvier students to viral debates about whether certain bodies are “professional,” the scrutiny is relentless. And when that ridicule comes from within our own institutions, it cuts deeper.
Because fatphobia isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about humanity. It’s the belief that bigger bodies are fair game for mockery, that visibility equals permission, that the only acceptable Black women to cheer for are the ones who fit into a narrow idea of beauty.
The Honey Beez have long disrupted that idea. Led by their fearless coach, they’ve appeared on national television, walked red carpets, and redefined what dance excellence looks like. Their presence alone is resistance. Which is why the joke wasn’t “harmless fun” — it was a reminder of how fragile respect can be when you don’t fit the mold.
HBCU culture is built on performance, confidence, and pageantry — but also on community. It’s time we ask ourselves what kind of community we’re building if we laugh at each other’s expense. The energy that once united us — from the bleachers to the bandstands — risks being replaced by the same judgment and shaming we claim to reject.
And the internet only amplifies it. Social media thrives on humiliation; it turns moments like these into trending topics rather than teachable ones. But the truth is, we can do both: hold people accountable and hold space for growth. Bullard later apologized, but the damage lingers, not just in his reputation but in how comfortable the crowd was laughing in the first place.
There’s nothing wrong with loving the theatrics of HBCU culture — the chants, the slick talk, the lighthearted rivalries. But when “entertainment” crosses into cruelty, it’s time to recalibrate. Body positivity shouldn’t be a social media hashtag; it should be a cultural practice.
Protecting the dignity of every performer — whether they’re a Honey Bee, a Drum Major, or a Majorette — means acknowledging that the legacy of HBCUs isn’t just excellence; it’s inclusion.
Because if we can’t honor the diversity of Black bodies in our own spaces, how can we expect the rest of the world to?

Nobody could say how the father's should react

Every action required a react

If my daughter didn't laugh TRUST me I'm putting foot to ass cause I have bail money
a father, worth a damn and that gave a damn about their health would have been said something before it got to this point.

so to sum up what you are saying is that men are responsible for their behavior and choices .....and women are not, esp if they are young.....cant let that slide duece. call truth sayers and fact tellers all the names you want....doesnt change the fact that these young women put themsekves out there....knowing or niavely not knowing the risk of criticism and shaming. they made their choice. they have to live with consequences of said choice.

we have to stop coddling and consoling the delusional mind state of our women.....i dont know why any of you who condone this BS cant see that this is an existential crisis in our black community with our women being the victims and the perpetrators. We men are too scared to tell the fucking truth...harshly, nicely, or whatever....it need to be said before its too late. and we are putting more black people in the ground due to obesity and poor health.

like so many on the board, you focusing on the "how the message was delivered" instead of the message itself. Next time an authoritative figure speaks harshly to you, tell them to talk to you nicely bc fuq what they are trying to say.

Truth be told, the nigga making the comment ain't in the greatest shape himself.....If he felt so compellled to deliver this message it's a time and place to do it. You can tell the dancers after the game how good of a job they did, but they need to focus on losing weight....Hell we don't even know where they are their weight loss journey....

Do we know they don't have a dietician? Do we know they aren't getting up 5am in the morning and working out???

People need to be careful of what they say in the public...Don't be mad if something you think is a JOKE comes back to you in a negative way (beat down or a hot one to the dome).

I can make the assumption he probably has high blood pressure and diabetes and announce, "Oh we have the face of insulin and lisinopril doing the call for the famu vs alabama state game)......Nigga calling someone fat and you looking like the face of Pilsbury dough boy....Man GTFOH

Why would I read 4 paragraphs of weird bullshit. You trying to call me feminine but you're the one whos feelings got hurt, wrote a book about your feelings and now you're complaining cause I ignored it.

If you're wondering....that makes you the bitch.

Yeah, you're reaching this isn't the same thing.

Same way some of y'all mentioned Dave Chappelle who the whole world know is a comedian to tell jokes being his profession.

The dude was wrong because he wasn't hired to tell jokes at that HBCU with all those people friends and family being there to watch them as cheerleaders and the football game.

So, find a thread that I posted about these young girls getting roasted at college as cheerleaders in front of their family and friends...I'll wait.

My pops is in his 70s in better shape than him and he love to talk shit but there's certain lines he wouldn't cross. We would be saying a lot of crazy shit in the car when we ride past people but they would never hear us because the window is up. Also, my father is very sensitive to shit like that because he lost his mother from a heart attack who was a heavy set back then. that announcer can easily get roasted as well for his weight issues but it be funny how people talk shit about other people not being in shape when they aren't either. Pot calling the kettle black.

I can bet he wouldn't had said no racist shit or weight jokes around a bunch of CACs though at the game because some of these niggas know better and are scared about the consequences or getting their ass whooped. Niggas never have the same energy for CACs since there's a bunch overweight white whales out there as well.

We as black people already got it tough with lack of healthcare, limited healthy food options and the price being high as shit compared to junk food being cheaper and no I'm not making excuses because the majority of black people don't have the money for those high ass prices for healthy food which should be affordable.

Bruh, his behaviour is par for the course at HBCUs..at least that is how it was in the 90s.

I have been to 25+ HBCU football games and people get clowned by the announcer...especially the away team, their band, and their dancers.

This happened literally all of the time.

Matter of fact, aways teams usually would have their own announcer on the mic before their performance.

ASU should let those fat chicks only perform at home games if they are so sensitive about it.

BTW....The Honey Bees are not children. They are adults, so stop it with the overprotection.

At their age they are fully aware with their health problems and how people see them.

They choose to be on centre stage.

When you are on centre stage, you get judged. That is the way it is.

If they didnt want to get judged, they should have had their fat assess in the audience like where most humble fat chicks would be.

and my alma mater is still reppin....

Nowhere in my post am I blaming men; I call out men, specifically men on this board who have been using the excuse of gassed-up heads and overconfidence, because even if these women are gassed up, they are not affecting anything you do.

These rants about fat women on BGOL are solely related to the attractiveness or perceived lack of attractiveness of those women; nobody is taking into account poverty, lack of resources, lack of health care, the general stress of being Black in America, and how that can cause people to live unhealthy lifestyles and to fall into vices such as junk food, excessive alcohol, unsafe or unprotected sex, drug usage or any other addiction.

An old, overweight, balding man calling women young enough to be his granddaughters "the new face of ozempic" is not going to spark change in any of these young women, and given how FAMU is groveling to have him available for their homecoming, and given the fact that he apologized two days later means that not even he stands by what he said.

Comedians, sitcoms, and cartoons have been making fat jokes for years. Did that spark fat people to lose weight?

Did we see a ton of people lose weight after Joe Tex released "Ain't gonna bump no more"?

Progress comes from people like Jim Fixx and Richard Simmons.

Will just have to agree to disagree. You're using the same logic of some of these white fans that go to games and think they have the right ridicule players because "they paid for their ticket" and 'they make millions of dollars'. It's not "overprotection", it's basic protection. I really think some of yall on here really hate women and project that hatred onto them. Should they lose weight? Yes. We agree on that. Was that the time or place to embarass them? Absolutely not. What you mean "If they dont want to get judged"? They get judged all the time in every day life.

On a side note, I find it ironic that Marva Johnson is insisting on the announcer to take "sensitivity" training. Seeing as how she's loved by DeSantis, I thought they didn't believe in that.
