Have Black Women Lost Their Ability To Think For Themselves

Lately in the media the talk has been about "quality black women can't find quality black men. Do SOL's black women really believe this?

Seriously the media has been telling us how worthless we black people are for decades. Are we so gullible as to buy into this hype? If so the future for black people is bleak. The media tells you the black man ain't worth a damn, so if that's the case who are you to pick as your future mates.

We got failing school systems. Municipalities cutting back on funding for education. Here in Atlanta eliminating bus routes so people can't get to work. Drugs poisoning the minds of our youth and a penal system that can't wait to accept them. Gentrification is in full effect taking away our neighborhoods nationwide. We are under a full fledged assault as a people and don't even realize it. We all need to wake up.

Sorry for the rant just curious about what you women (guys too) were thinking about all that's going on.

Short answer-NO
But there are SOME white, black, brown yellow & red women who have lost the ability to think for them selves.

Do I believe that quality black women lack the ability to meet quality black men? No ... I just think its hard and people don't have the patience to do so .. its easier to complain and mope than to put yourself in the position to do better than you've been doing.

The current 'recession' gives a lot of administrators/politicians/policy makers the chance to do things they've wanted to do for a long time. Our communities feel it the worst.

If black women shut the fuck up and stop thinking they know every goddamn thing maybe black men will find their way back to them

I think it's easy to fall into the "media hype" and take on pessimistic attitude about what is going on with black society, as a whole...

I think many black men AND women are opportunitists (i.e., Steve Harvey, Oprah, Michael Baisden, etc.) and are pulling on the heartstrings and pockets of black women in making them feel how dire and "desperate" their situations are...

Women have intuition, though, and should always follow it no matter what... thinking for oneself can lead to enlightment and a great sense of self-awareness...

I rarely watch the news or listen to any of that garbage these days... I think some women are wising up, but I can see many are not :smh:

BUT, the bigger issue is not that black women are losing the ability to think for themselves, but how the media is pushing its agenda onto black women in hopes that we won't think for ourselves... we've gotta start controlling these stories and making them more positive and focusing on the positives in our community rather than the negatives...

Additionally, and on a separate note, you can't pay guys like Steve Harvey and Michael Baisden any mind, honestly.

They have absolutely no professional credentials that would entitle them to speak on relationships, generally, from any superiorly intellectual standpoint.

It's not just black women, it's damn near everyone these days. I think all this technology is actually making the majority (consuming) population stupider while the 0.01% developers and innovators of these new technologies are getting intelligenter. And given that they're procreating at a way slower rate than the consumers, whose off-spring could give a fuck, the next 50-100 years (if humans make it there) will be pretty interesting.

We're gonna have a few rich people controlling a few smart people controlling a heep of stupid people but the only difference now, from say, 1367, is that it'll probably only take just one stupid person to fuck us all up.

It seems everyone is not buying into the medias BS, I find that refreshing. An Jo your right. Focus needs to be directed towards the positives an there are many. But the media never seems to feel these events are broadcast worthy, but will brave a tornado if someone was shot 2 blocks away.

If we didn't know better you would think all our daughters were pregnant, sons were thieves or drug dealers. Every black man was uneducated drug addict and every black woman has HIV or herpes. We deserve better we need to demand better.

Its not just Black women, but people. we are taught from a young age to follow the rules and not question authority. The time comes where everyone breaks out of this and have to fend for themselves, but are left lost because they don't know how to govern themselves without any rules. thinking takes effort, and an admission that you are actively involved in the world around you. simply doing as you are told releases you of all unnecessary effort and having to assume responsibility, that's why so many people prefer it. In my opinion it's laziness and fear that causes people to cling to other peoples beliefs and ideas. Sheep mentality that is what it is pure and simple. So much easier to let others do the thinking and make the decisions. Too much effort to use brain power ...senseless waste!

^^^That's^^^ just more HYPE. You're spinning the obvious truth in order to serve your pro-male bias. There are lots of facts that are beyond debate. Stop blaming the messenger.

(Close-minded, conservative whites blame the "media hype" in the same manner for supposedly overstating racism. Do you agree with them??)

I'll put it like this , if the woman wants to run the show let them. I dated a "so -called" successful woman and she put so much effort on the outside of things even in ministry, church, she held two important delegations where she lived and she had a job in aerospace. Her "inside" life was suffering. Her health was shaky, her house was disorganized and NASTY and the kids brought undue stress into her life. I tried to help her remedy some of the stressors that she had in her life. Make the kids more responsible for chores, and their performance in school, making sure that the house was always clean, cooking, and helping her in every possible way. I TRIED TO HELP HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But she rejected the help with her kids, and rejected any suggestions that I made to improve upon her lifestyle. To play bullshit assed games with another nigga, who just wanted some pussy. I suggested counseling for our communication rift, I lauded her successes and was very proud of her. I fought a good fight as far as making things better. BUT She thought she knew every fuckin' thing ..... In so much, that I caught her ass cheating on me even though we were engaged. So fuck her, she can lay in her own filth for all I care now. And in her own vomit. You live as a one woman show you will probably die that way also

What fundamentally drives human behavior and choice? The central focus of cognitive psychology and attribution.

You're essentially on point with the "laziness" (complacency) and "fear" (of violating the status quo). Both of which are furnished by our (well a majority of us) default "short-term" temporal sense of immortality.

Of course this temporal sensibility is an inevitable consequence of how our minds have evolved and is necessarily essential for the establishment of our organized communities/societies and institutions, but it's also the main reason we keep fucking up.

The thread title questions the ability to "think for ones self" which requires introspection. At least thats the convention notion. The problem is that "introspection illusion" and "confabulation" - which will always occur to some degree - result in cognitive biases like attribute substitution which often lead to stuff like illusions of superiority. EVERYONE is guilty of this in some to some degree.

The REAL question is how do we overcome this?

Check out the thread I made a while back, it has a lot to do with this issue..

I hate it when someone ask a legitimate question about our race, and some over sensitive person say "well everyone else does it". Please do not take this as some kind of Uncle Ruckus rant, but I think we need to start looking at ourselves in the mirror.

Lets use the logic Onyx just threw out.

Is it safe to say that people in our race are capable of being overly racists towards other races?

Really?

I've been told that our race cannot be considered a racist because we lack "power" to actually promote our prejudice feelings. That's right....right?

Back to the subject at hand, I do believe that our community, as a whole, do not promote the ability to think as an individual. I'm a prime example on this board. When I offer a different opinion, fuckheads go find my pic and try to ock me. *like that's going to shut me up* People label me as a coon, a halo-type who hates black women *when I'm currently fucking nothing but black women at the time.....*. I have fucking family members hating that I have a different opinion than they do, and I live a better life than they will ever be able to live.

This is not true. We all have the capacity to be racist. We root for the black people we see on TV because they are black. Win or lose it shouldn't matter who wins. We have nothing to gain regardless of who wins.

We are born of racist. It might have been mom or pop but racism is a part of us all. It was my father who taught me to be racist (indirectly) by using terms like cracker. I he had said white guy I would've thought nothing of it. But he called a world class athlete a cracker. How do you ignore that?

As for individual thinking...stay with it. To hell with the naysayers! People don't want to hear what they need to hear. This is what's lacking within our people. In fact individual thinking is now frowned upon. Many are either afraid to speak their minds in fear of being ostracized or lack the capacity to do so.

Individuality is missing today with many of our younger people. Their appearance, style of dress, music taste and views on life.

I do believe these are a few of the reasons why the media feels it can bombard non-white races with propaganda to reassert the images that portray us lacking.

The list of problems that exist today is are too numerous to address here. But we cannot allow a racist white run media to dictate to us what is wrong within our communities. Not when we live with the existing problems daily.

I don't think that the problem is that Black women can't find a decent Black man. But there are two sides to this answer. Let's start with what you said first:

"quality black women can't find quality black men"

If these women of quality actually thought with the same level of richness that they purport themselves to be then they would find a decent man. Many don't even know they have a decent man and will pass up on many because he is too short, too tall, too dark, too light, doesn't have the correct job, make the correct money, wears the wrong pair of shoes - the list can go on. Not having these things doesn't make a quality man any less of a grade of man, but not being able to see a man's potential or even not giving a man the time of day for some shortsighted reason can make the quality in a woman diminish.

On the other hand for those women who think they are of quality, they cannot find a quality man because they don't know any better. Again they could have had a quality man but because of stupid reasons like the above, they let them go. Likewise they could have the wrong perception of what a quality man is and once scored proclaim to the world that good men are no more. It's dangerously apparent there needs to be a Facebook group detailing the finer points of men because women obviously aren't getting it.
