Save yourself some money & go buy a cheap enclosure from Microcenter or the like.
Then DL Linux (Ubuntu is the most user-friendly) & install it onto a USB.
Boot off that USB & start Linux. Plug in the HD enclosure & see if Linux sees it. If Linux does, copy all of those files from the HD to another USB & you good.
If it doesn't, then you're going to need software to recover the data.
BTW, if the HD is clicking or making off-brand/screeching noises, the heads have crashed & you are going to need major work.
