Asked to appear on the Australian variety hour Hey Hey It's Saturday as a guest judge, Harry Connick Jr. sputters in disbelief when a Jackson 5 impersonation group entirely in blackface appears onstage. He first gives the group a 0 scorecard for the performance while the audience boos; later, at about 4:40 into the clip, Connick launches into an impassioned race-relations lecture explaining why blackface is a bad thing. "If I knew that was going to be a part of the show, I definitely wouldn't have done it," Connick declares on live TV. The host appears genuinely surprised.

But whats really sad is the brothers who would have looked at that as nothing but entertainment and wouldn't have said shit!

The bigotry of some people isnt as surprising or disappointing as the personal dishonesty that usually accompanies it.

Black face, broken English and using the term "jive" is in no way a "tribute" or paying homage. Especially from countrymen of Austrailia who are all too familiar with racial oppression and hatred as it relates to its indigenous people.

And i wont even get into a so-called tribute putting MJ in white face. It was blatantly disrespectful and inherently racist. All of it.

They knew exactly what they were doing.

Oh, and OP, quit with the misleading title. He didnt blow up. He was pleasant and sincere with his displeasure of that bullshit.

Big ups to Harry, but he know he could not have gone back to New Orleans, without saying something about that. It would have been even better if the "Jackson Jive" had come back and apologized. If it was truly ignorance, than they surely would not have wanted to offend if they were trying to pay tribute.

I think we should do more whiteface and let folks know how we can view them, trust me, when those clowns took off their make up, they were still clowns and could have easily been ripped.

we should do what we do best and crack jokes on em, save the anger for real issues.

Since they were ignorant they probably had no idea of how offensive they were, until Harry Connick checked them....

Now if only we can put this same energy into stopping the buffoonery thats ruining the black image in America, we will start to see progress
