Hard Knock Life: The Ballad of Damon Dash (colin)

After its all said and done, He made some bad moves and paid the cost for them DEARLY, even though he can be brash sometimes, you got to respect his hustle. anyone including myself would have thought you are ruined after having your business put in the streets but he endured his struggles, pulled himself up by the boot straps and still manages to rake in a measly 2 mil a year! I know its far from his idea of ballin like he used to but still better than most! This was a good read and very inspiring!

I'm sure he thought Ye was that & didn't figure it would go how it did, but the reality is he was burned up after Jay. No real talent would align with a guy on the outside looking in like he was. The internet would be his way back in...like someone said his hustle/savvy/acumen with southern indy artists would take off, but appears he's done with music.

currency.......truth is dame was lucky

Jay and Dame have different approaches to the game. Dame is anti-corporate and Jay is a corporate tycoon. Those fundamental differences is all you need to know.

That was an excellent fucking read.

Although Dame was a jackass, you have to respect his hustle and his accomplishments.

As he said in the article, Jay is an artist, he can do concerts and make bread from songs he made ten years ago. He on the other hand is just a businessman.

mad respect for dude...he's hustling and grinding when people want to see him fall so bad...just look at this thread as an example

i just dont understand how dudes can be so tight/best friends and then fall out to the point they rarely speak to each other. What part of the game is that?

This part of the game.

$$$ changes everything. You'd think these broke was peep the game that Dame is dropping.

He made mistakes (Jimmy?:smh:), but you gotta respect his hustle.

:lol:Jay's now a business tycoon??? you fools kill me with the shit that you assume based off of an image and what you're told and sold.

Remember people that there was a third partner that got fucked also, the silent partner literally. It's not just a Jay vs Dame issue.

I still say Jay could have talked to them first because he ended up splitting it all down the middle anyways so.

Some of y'all are hilarious. Dudes are happy being rich but not REALLY owning shit. Dame mindset is that he'd rather keep his creative control and keep whatever his idea is pure than sell it out. That's mindset cost him the fame and immense fortune but you can tell he's happy. Funny people keep saying Jay don't owe him, where the fuck is Dame saying Jay does?

People act like Dame isn't richer than most folks will ever be. It's crazy how people act like because Jay has the money that he's a better business man. Jay is a rapper that aligned with Dame who was a businessman. He split and aligned with more businessmen. Jay has lesser value but he had more ownership back then. He abandoned his own line to scream Italian every song. For Dame that's not what he wanted. I can respect that.

Jay-Z "People Talking" (2001)

Ski: "The last song I did with Jay was 'People Talking.' A lot of people think Kanye or Just Blaze did it, but I did it. I made that beat for an artist that I was working with in North Carolina named Mr. Dolo. He put out a mixtape called Carolina Blue Vol. 1.
"He was on that beat and he was killing it. But Jay was in town doing a show in Charlotte, and he said, 'Yo, you got any beats man? I'm in town. Come and see me.' I just had the instrumental version of that—and after he heard it, the next week he was flying me to New York to lay it down.

"That was classic but it never really saw the light of day because it was a hidden track on the Unplugged album. It's funny, I speak to Dame about it a lot and he be like, 'That was my favorite song that Jay ever did and I was mad he didn't want to shoot a video.' They wanted to shoot a video and do everything for that, but for some reason Jay didn’t want to do it. I have no idea why."
