You know how people of color find it difficult to get acting roles unless it's specified for "ethnic?" Then portraits of Jesus should look how a Middle Eastern man would look and not blond hair with blue eyes... If we're going to keep it real, let's keep it all the way real. Jesus was a Jew and not the "mixed with Europeans over eons Jewish."

BOOM!

What did Jesus look like?
People have a funny idea of what Jesus looked like. Jesus of Nazareth was not white-skinned. Jesus was not European. Jesus was a Jew. Jesus lived in the land of Israel in the Middle East. The Bible tells us that Jesus walked wherever He went so we can easily imagine that His olive skin would have been darkened by the sun.

Jesus would not have had a neat, trimmed beard, because a command (Leviticus 19:27) in the Law of Moses, which the Bible says Jesus observed, required Jewish males to “not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.”

Hundreds of years after Jesus’ life on earth Renaissance artists painted pictures that made Jesus look handsome. They were not accurate representations of Jesus’ likeness. The painters were following Italian traditions and the culture of Europe rather than what the Bible says and they certainly had never met Jesus. Sadly their artworks continue to influence thinking.

The only verse in the Bible about Jesus’ physical form, before His death and resurrection, is found in Isaiah 53:2. It says:

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.”
In other words, the only biblical description of Jesus during His time on earth says that He was not physically attractive.

Beauty, in God’s eyes, comes from within [1 Samuel 16:7b, 1 Peter 3:3-4]

On the other hand, in contrast to the horned cartoon character that we are accustomed to seeing, the Bible tells us that the devil is handsome [Ezekiel 28:14-17] and he portrays himself as being full of goodness [2 Corinthians 11:14-15].

The gospel rings true because it is the opposite of the way man usually thinks.

The gospel rings true because it is the opposite of the way man usually thinks.

What man would have conceived a philosophy where salvation would come through believing that God would come to earth as a helpless baby, born in a stinking stable, a peasant among a despised subjugated people in an obscure land, and would later be nailed up to die like the worst of criminals.

The natural mind is more attracted to youth and beauty, success and acclaim.

But, God’s thoughts are the opposite of mans’ thoughts [Isaiah 55:8-9].

Of course, in one sense, it hardly matters what Jesus looked like. It is what He accomplished for us on the cross – in paying the price for our sins – that truly counts.

In one sense, it hardly matters what Jesus looked like. What truly counts is what He accomplished for us on the cross – in paying the price for our sins.

However, it certainly goes to show that there is much to do with Christian belief that is influenced more by tradition, and even by the culture around us, than by what the Bible actually says.

Many Bible truths are confronting. They challenge our normal patterns of thought. However, God, in perfect wisdom, presents us with Truth – not to tickle our ears but to work for our ultimate good.

If Jesus had "hair like lamb's wool" and skin "of bronze", why is he depicted with caucasoid features?
In truth, wouldn't Jesus resemble some of the same people we are fighting? The Jews of his day were much darker than they are today (without having had Eurpoean influences yet) so wouldn't his appearence mirror some of the same "traditional" facial profiles we see today in that region? Best Answer: Your absolutely correct!

Here's another scripture as well:

Son 5:11 His head is as the most fine gold, his locks are bushy, and black as a raven.

******************************
The French depictions of his likeness was chose with blue eyes and long light brown hair. They felt that people with these features were God inspired and perfect. It was this same image that Hitler was thrilled with also, giving him an excuse to kill others that didn't look this way, claiming they were not perfect.
Again it was inspirations brought on by faulty mankind, not the truth of all matters of spiritualness.

You would enjoy the studies of Art History, either you can take the course if your going to be college lead, or you can go to a college library and check out the books. It will describe these original paintings made during the time of the dark ages.

I'm an artist and have been very tempted to paint Jesus the way he should be depicted, in the most truthful way.

  • This is why the people of Israel missed Jesus...they were looking for a type of person instead of the Messiah. While there is credit to the fact that Egyptians, Ethiopians, Libyans were originally black as was described by the ancient Greek historian Herodotus who saw these people for himself well before Jesus appeared on the scene. Not to mention, even if the Jews looked like they did in modern times, this would have changed when they went to Egypt under Joseph's protection (remember before Christ), they would not have come out the same because only 63 went in, over 2 million came out and the Bible speaks to them taking wives.

All of that is historical, factual, and anyone can find this information in any library across the nation. But color is not the number 1 thing about the Messiah. Salvation is!

  • That is a description of Jesus for the end times. Not what he looked like during his first time on earth. Was he a Man of color, dark skinned of course he was. All the Hebrews were Black.

Look at the descriptions in the Bible. Joseph's brothers would have immedietly knew thet he was their brother if he was the only white or light skinned guy in Pharoahs court. Joseph who the Hebrew twelve tribes of Judah were named after his sons. Joseph married one of Pharoahs daughter. The Egyptian aka the Kimitans the real name of the Egyptians. Egypt is not the real name of the land it is Kimit or Kemet. The Egyptians or Kimitans are Ethiopians or Cushites that migrated and settled there.

Moses who was mistaken for Egyptian married a Ethiopian woman. Paul of the Bible was mistaken for Egyptian. This tells you that Hebrews were dark skinned. Look at all early art earlier than 300 ad when Constantine introduced a Caucasian Jesus they are all black every prophet, Apostle, Hebrew...

  • If Jesus had "hair like lamb's wool" and skin "of bronze", why is he depicted with caucasoid features?

He is depicted with caucasoid features due to racism. Racist people live in a fictional world. A world where they fear truth. So rather than depict him as he is described

"Hair like sheep's wool, body like Beryl, face like fine Gold, eyes like a flame, feet like fine brass"

The racist choose to distort his image, and present him as a blond hair, or black hair, blue eyed, brown eyed person with white skin.

The simple minded or the culture bandit will respond, all people depict cultural icons in their image. This is a White wash. This is racism at it's finest. If you buy into this philosophy. Then Michael Jordan should be Asian in Asia. He should be Indian in India, and he should be White in Europe. This is just plain racist stupidity.

The only reason people distort history, and change facts, and change the color of icons, and blow noses off of relic's... is because, they cannot handle the truth.
The truth will reflect their Barbarous behavior to themselves and to the world. The racist is a murderous coward that hides from truth and lives in a house built on lies, and blood.

No person or culture has the right to change a person to fit their liking.
Sorry for the rant. But this is Racism at it's best.
Here's what Jesus looked like. .

  • Rev 1: 14 "His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;" (KJV) The texture of Jesus' hair is not being described, it's the color. The entire book of Revelations is just that, a revelation. It describes things that are not here on Earth and things that will happen in the future. That being said we now know that this description is of the image of Jesus in the spirit, not what he looks like in the flesh. If you base your opinion on biblical history then we know that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, which is in the Middle East. People in the Middle East at that time looked like Africans from the African continent (not Americanized ones that wear weave and have nose jobs). People had not started migrating to the North yet so the adaptations of hair texture, facial features, and skin tone that we see now had not yet taken place. So basically, Jesus probably looked like someone from Northern Africa. In all honesty, what matters is his sacrifice for our sins and him dying on the cross for our sins. It's the spiritual aspect that matters more than what he looked like or what he is depicted like today.

  • Oh, stop, please. It's not a physical description. In the same passage in Revelation (1:12-18) it says his eyes were "like a flame of fire" and "out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword." What race would that be?? No to mention it doesn't say his hair is "like wool", it says it is "white like wool" -- it has nothing to do with how curly it is, it has to do with the color. It's an apocalyptic description of his purity, and spiritual power, not physical appearance. Don't get carried away with the superfluous. He was a Jew of Jewish ethnicity. That we DO know.

  • its meant to describe Jesus as His glorifed state as king in heaven. its NOT meant to say He was black. do u know any black people who have red eyes like fire? HE WAS A JEW. He would've looked like modern day people in the mid east--sort of like arabs. while he was NOT a blond blue eyed erupoean, he would be considered Caucasian, not African. want further proof? read the book of esther. esther was a full blooded jew who became queen of Persia. even the king didn't know she was a jew. so she must have looked much like the Persians which is modern day iran. and yes some Iranians do have blue or green eyes. stop trying to make Him into YOUR image, and start becoming conformed to HIS--not physically but spiritually.

  • Because all of those pictures of Him are just an artist's rendition of how they see him. I've also seen pictures of him being black, Oriental, etc. When in fact, he would look like anyone else who was from the middle East

  • Jesus,s hair was like wool, not straight his skin was of bronze not white ,therefore it's unlikely his going to have blue eyes, right. You might as well, tell the truth now, It also says in the Bible, thou shall not worship ,false prophets or gods

one of the greatest mind fucks of all time..

get people you want to subjagate to worship a god

that resembles.

you..

by the way the bible decribes him as having hair white LIKE WOOL

and skin of fine brass as thought it BURNT in fire...

and folks have the bible and STILL worship a cac faggy lookin

messiah...

un fuckin believable..

your God should always look like you!!

Let's keep it all the way real... Most of 'us' that believe in Jesus do so because we were taught to believe in him by the generation before us. It isn't like a newborn or toddler has a choice as to what religion they will be. If you go back enough generations, we will find that the origin of most of our belief in Jesus was forced upon us.

But yeah, Jesus would have the same features as everyone one else from Jerusalem during that time.
