I haven't really handled weapons since I got out of the Navy (been to the range once since I got out). I need something simple, semi-auto. Something that's easy to use, Easy to clean and the bullets aren't too expensive.

I'm guessing a 9mm would be preferred over a .380 because I would assume 9mm rounds are cheaper than .380 rounds. I don't want it to cost me a grip practicing with it.

I don't know where to look, so I'm asking y'all. I know I'm not the only guy who's curious, and we got people on this site who know a lot of shit about a lot of shit.

So, what do you got, and where do I look? Also if you could add info like laser sighting I'd appreciate it

I'd suggest that you visit your local gun store or range, and finger bang a couple of the more popular models. See what feels right in your hand, perhaps rent and shoot that gun. Make your purchase based on what feels right for you. If you want a place to start, check the Glock 19, 17, or 26. Stay away from .380, although technically a smaller round, it is not cheaper than .9mm, and more often difficult to find.

Taurus g2c with hollow points. Under $240 and with the buy you can also use for concealed carry when not at home. The trigger pull is long but your not using it for competition shooting.

I think you should get a 9mm. Cheap bullets and easy to shoot and arguably as much stopping power as any non magnum round. Look on here for good prices on both guns and ammo https://gun.deals/ I like hammer fired HKs, and you can find one for $500, but get what feels good in your hand. You definitely should order bullets online.

Buy the Glock 19, Bro. The round is plentiful and the Glock is reliable. You won't have to baby it.

For a first gun, get the Glock. After you re-familiarize yourself with weaponry, then start looking at all of those other makes and models. Like someone already said, go to your local gun shop and see for yourself though.

Even though I did handle guns in the military, I was in the Navy lol. Before I got deployed to Kuwait I might have shot 60 bullets my entire 10-year career. Not 60 times...60 bullets. (I was in supply.)

In preparation for Kuwait I qualified on the 9 mm and the M16 - no idiot marks.

That said, I know better than to get a weapon without a safety. Even though I know what I'm doing, you don't want to take the chance. I'll probably get a trigger guard anyway, just in case

Many good points in here so the only thing I'll add is get a laser bullet if you want to practice around the house with your accuracy and your finger pull. I printed paper targets and in the beginning used the apps with it, but no longer use them. Have improved my accuracy from 40 ft away across the crib from months ago and been to the range a few times and at the furthest distance on the range, my grouping is on point.

Check it out, can save you alot of money in shooting boxes of rounds as you get your finger pull acclimated to your piece.

G-Sight 9mm Luger Training Laser Cartridge Gen 2 w/Pro App

Amazon product ASIN B07115ZZBM
Here's how it operates. No need to buy a $90 bullet like the one in the vid. I have the one on the Amazon link and you can just print targets for free and get the apps for free. Just tape the target to the wall or something.

Fam, get a Glock 19 and call it a day. It’s the best all around gun on the market, period!

If you’re feeling spendy....look at the HK VP9.

This all day long. Go test them out, see what feels right. I have 3 glocks 2 21s and a 19. Thought I wanted a 1911 until I held one, just wasn't for me. Once you find what feels right, put in time at the range with it.

Springfield
It went up by almost $100 but I put 1,000 round through the barrel, it never jammed. Kickback is minimal and was able to fire while moving. Grouping tight for a 3 round pattern.

I've found over the years that the best way to keep kids safe around guns is to take away the wow factor. Teach them how to shoot early. Take them to the gun range and teach them gun safety. As long as "Menace To Society", "Boys In The Hood" and John Rambo is romanticizing guns to your kids they are going to pick one up when you're not around. I started with my sons early with bbguns and milk jugs in the back yard then graduated to guns at the range. They know that guns ain't for play play. They know you don't point a gun unless your ready to use it. They know how dangerous guns are. Most of all they can protect our home, themselves and me in an emergency..

I bought a Ruger Sr9c last year as my first gun. It’s perfect for home defense. If you want something a little smaller to carry I suggest the Ruger LC9s. Good size and reliable like the SR9c.
