Great fight from both Mayweather and Cotto

You answered your own question. Floyd stepped up the activity because Cotto was defensive minded leaving fewer opportunities for what Floyd loves to do best, counterpunch. Also, Floyd understood that it is a lot easier to dominate or control Cotto when you attack him more. This is why Cotto lost control against Pacquiao and Margarito. You can't just sit back and let Cotto get into a rhythm. Floyd's sit back and counterpunch off the shoulder roll style gives a guy like Cotto his best shot to win because it allows him time to think and to fight at his own pace. This is pretty much the same thing I said in the previous post but maybe it was too wordy or long winded.

Floyd threw more punches then he probably has in any other fight but he also missed more. He only landed at 26% when he usually lands at 46%. Shit! Surely Cotto was doing something right in there although you choose to ignore it.

Again... no rounds...

Completely side swipe the ropes part...

:hmm: So Cotto's defense caused Floyd to come out from the gate throwing combinations and it's Cotto's defense, which really didn't help him win a round until the 6th, but that is what you believe made Floyd throw more overall...

Floyd obviously came into the fight with a different game plan, but you think Floyd was concerned about Cotto's rhythm and Cotto's pace when Floyd also was on the ropes a lot giving Cotto free range to do what he wanted. I see why you avoided that part...

I'm not saying Cotto didn't do anything, but Floyd clearly fought differently and I attribute that more to Floyd than Cotto. With that said, Cotto did take advantage and it only got him the 6th and 8th round with maybe the 7th if you felt generous.

Probably so...when he was the aggressor in this fight, he was getting in good shots (especially in the middle of the ring) and again, those right hands were messing Cotto up bad...It was when he started baiting Cotto in the corner and letting him throw more (missing a lot, but still landing shots here and there) that Miguel got more punches in.

Even when Floyd was not going to the ropes/corner but just backing up, Cotto did not lead with anything to try and get inside, which I thought would be his core strategy to do damage against Mayweather.

The main reason that Floyd won all those rounds was because he was able to control the action in the ring regardless of where it was. The few rounds that Cotto did win wasn't by a lot either...It was mainly because he was more succesful in his game plan than most thought he would be...

Floyd had two approaches in the fight that were damn near the complete opposite of each other. One was walking Cotto down and throwing a lot of punches. The other was staying in the pocket or against the ropes and countering. Either way, Floyd was in control.

from the build up, the weigh in , to the actual the fight i dont think floyd respected cotto at all . he actually showed ortiz more respect in the ring then he did cotto

I disagree. I think he was testing Cotto and when Cotto didn't seem fazed by his antics, he let up. The weigh in face off was typical of any face off when you let the fighters stand too close for too long.

Did you take the time to write down each round you scored during the live transmission or do you have the fight recorded? I saw the fight live and I am going off memory but I can't remember the exact rounds. That is why I am not telling you an exact round. The fight was up in the air through the eighth IMO and through the tenth I remember rounds that could have gone either way. I remember Floyd pulling away clearly in the 11th and 12th leaving no doubt. As usual, Cotto loses steam in those rounds no matter who he fights.

Regarding Floyd going to the ropes, sometimes he was there when he wanted to be and sometimes he wasn't. I remember several times when Floyd was trying to flurry off the ropes and get out but Cotto would not let him get out. There were two instances where Cotto actually lifted Mayweather and threw him into the turnbuckle. So no, I don't think Mayweather was totally in control and what Cotto brought to the table definitely affected Mayweather's tactics before the fight and during the fight.

Yes, Cotto's defense caused Mayweather to throw more and to miss more. I don't see why this would be such an impossibility. The compubox numbers don't lie. Mayweather missed more and got hit more than any other fight. His landing percentage went from 46% against other guys to 26% against Cotto. I know you're a big Mayweather fan but damn. You think Mayweather was so in control that he planned missing all those punches and getting hit more?

Up in the air by the 8th??? There are links to the fight every where and its even on youtube. Take a second look. You may see a completely different fight. I've seen it 4 times and you couldn't even be generous to Cotto before the 6th or after the 8th.

Damn, 4 times?! Alright, I will refrain from debating this until I see the fight again.

Don't worry zeferino his hate for cotto is out of control, nothing you can do about it, in fact i'm shock that he saw cotto win even a single round. I bet that the bloody nose main got was done by roger to bait cotto in.:lol::lol::lol::lol:

No you misunderstood... Floyd missing shots was all Cotto. Re-read what I typed, because I am giving deserved credit where it belongs.

To be honest since we can't get Pac man vs. money, this was/is the best fight we the fight fan could get and Money just is flat better than Cotto. I had the fight 119 - 108 giving Cotto Round 2 and scoring the final round 10 - 8 in Mayweather's favor.

So 115-113 in favor of Cotto is more believable to you than a draw?
