Just trying to maintain or separation from traditional Africans who live and work in the US. I figure we’re stronger together and want to believe we can team up for the betterment of all POCs here.
Then shit like this happens.
there IS a difference...ADOS is the only immigrant group who came here NOT voluntarily. That means something. ADOS is the only immigrant group who had been declared not human but property when arriving here. That means something. ADOS is the only immigrant group thats been stripped of its identity and had it replaced with a skin color designation. Sure there are "white" people but they can readily and easily tell you who they are. "i'm half irish and polish. My mother is italian and my father is russian. ADOS cant do that. That means something.
And you could say that the Irish were the first niggas... of the UK and the colonies in the new world but while they were regarded and treated horribly by the English they never lost who they were as a people and if nothing else, they fought tooth and nail to retain that. Something the Africans brought to the colonies in mainland America couldn't successfully do. Also anyone who downplayed or suppressed their ethnicity in an effort to assimilate MADE A CHOICE. Thats not the same as someone literally beating you until you capitulated on expressing your true name, language and religion and accepted theirs..at gun point. That happened and that means something.
The Indigenous Natives aren't Americans..thats why theyre called First Nations. They are whatever their ethnic tribe is called and the land is called whatever their forefathers called it when they arrived here. They fought like...Comanches... to retain that knowledge too.
The early colonists adopted the psuedo-science of race including the fore fathers. Its the basis for the slave laws they created in the colonies in the mid 1700s. ANd you can bring up that Africans sold their own into slavery in the first place blah blah blah... but none of those other countries and peoples said "All men are created equal" or" Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness" or "We the People in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility," while at the same time holding people in bondage in perpetuity for damn near 100 years after they wrote those words. None of those other societies made those promises. That's what makes America unique and hypocritical!
And lets not act like they didn't know what they were doing. Some of the "Founding Fathers" were very conflicted about doing what they did and they understood full well, hell they journaled about it, the hypocrisy and contradictions of their words and actions in fighting for liberty and freedom for themselves while at the same time denying it for others ….and they did it anyway. But what all of that did was set the rules and tone and most importantly the PERCEPTIONS that dictates how we treat each other today.
Has there been progress. Yes I agree. But what did white america progress in exactly?? NOT being assholes to others?? Big whoop.
Being proud of the fact that TODAY Black people are treated better than back then is the same as a person who has abused their spouse since the first day of their marriage, saying "I stopped beating my spouse 5 years ago!" but theyve been married for 50 years. You don't get a cookie or a trophy for doing NORMAL shit like NOT beating your spouse. Thats how far skewed our moral compass is when you really look at it.
The USA wasn't created with idea of freeing all people. That was never theyre intention. Its also the reason why the country had to be dragged kicking and screaming to even begin to live up to its words which happened to be written in broad language. But when All men are created equal was written they clearly did not intend to include black people in that equation at all, that's why it took over 100 years to even consider citizenship for blacks. The line that confirms African Americans US citizenship is an addendum to the constitution. Put it this way... If you want to deny Black people citizenship in this country all you'd have to do is erase a line in the Constitution. If you want to deny White people citizenship in this country you'd have to burn the Constitution itself.
And she's concerned that schools will teach black kids their victims and can't succeed?? The VAST MAJORITY of black Americans are hardworking upright citizens trying to get thru their day just like everyone else and yet thats not the narrative media (on BOTH sides of the political aisle) has pushed since forever in the country. Between the media and social media, black american kids have all kinds of negative statistics pushed in their face and are told in no uncertain terms they ALL carry the shame and stigma of the people who commit crimes and its on THEM to clean it up then MAYBE we'll let you in. Every Black American citizen has heard some kind of variation on that narrative growing up. She's worried about actual american history being taught with all its warts and how that negatively effect her kids when your kids are already being told they carry the shame of black individuals who commit crimes simply because they share the same skin color!
So no black americans circumstances in America isn't the same as everyone else and we shouldn't be afraid to talk about that.
“You can always count on (white) Americans to do the right thing after they have tried everything else.”
Winston Churchill (paraphrased)
