Inspired by Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s 1892 short story, The Yellow Wallpaper.
This story was fiction—but the suffering behind it was painfully real.
After the birth of her daughter, Charlotte Perkins Gilman experienced a severe period of depression and emotional distress. She sought treatment from prominent neurologist Dr. Silas Weir Mitchell, who prescribed his famous “rest cure.”
The treatment severely restricted intellectual and creative activity. Gilman was advised to live a quiet domestic life and was discouraged from writing—the very activity that gave her purpose and allowed her to express what she was experiencing.
Gilman later explained that following this treatment brought her dangerously close to mental collapse.
Instead of remaining silent, she transformed that experience into “The Yellow Wallpaper.”
In the story, a woman suffering after childbirth is taken to a secluded house by her physician husband, John. He believes rest, isolation, and freedom from work will cure her. Her thoughts, fears, and concerns are repeatedly dismissed.
Confined to an upstairs room, she becomes obsessed with its hideous yellow wallpaper.
Soon she begins to see something inside the pattern:
A woman trapped behind it.
She becomes determined to set that woman free.
But the horror of Gilman’s story is not simply madness or a supernatural presence behind a wall. It is the gradual realization that the imprisoned woman represents something much closer to home.
“She wasn't behind it.
I was.”
Gilman used psychological horror to expose something very real: what can happen when a person's suffering is dismissed, when someone else is given authority over their voice, and when treatment becomes confinement rather than understanding.
More than 130 years later, The Yellow Wallpaper still gives us a reason to talk about mental health, postpartum mental illness, women being heard in medical care, autonomy, isolation, and the importance of taking psychological suffering seriously.
That is why I wanted to tell this story.
Not simply to frighten you.
To make you notice the woman behind the wallpaper.

At the river, he meets a clever fox who offers to help him cross. The Gingerbread Man knows foxes can't always be trusted—but with everyone closing in behind him, he has to make a choice.
What follows is one of the oldest lessons in children's storytelling:
Being clever can get you far.
Believing you're too clever to be fooled can get you into trouble.
This GOLOPO adaptation celebrates the classic tale with colorful cinematic imagery, humor, music, and an ending that stays true to the traditional spirit of the story.
ABOUT THE STORY
The Gingerbread Man belongs to a long tradition of runaway-food folktales. One of the best-known early American printed versions appeared in St. Nicholas Magazine in 1875, under the title The Gingerbread Boy.
Over the generations, the characters and details have changed, but the central idea has endured: a freshly baked gingerbread figure comes alive, outruns everyone who pursues him, and eventually encounters a fox clever enough to outwit him.
