Goddamn... Daniel Caesar Busts NPR Tiny Desk Wide Open

Well what is it? I know it's amplified but still looks like a hollow body instrument with no electronic pickups. ? :dunno:

It's what you just said - a hollow body electric bass. No pickups on the face but in the body some type. You couldn't possibly get that loud a sound from a body that small without amplification.

Let's hope @DWBass will come help us out. I'll try to contact some bass players I know.

The Taylor GS Mini-e Bass is a fun-to-play acoustic-electric bass. Its compact, small-scale design is lightweight, comfortable, and easy on your hands. Enjoy a direct, punchy tone with plenty of resonance, courtesy of the GS Mini-e Bass's spruce-topped sapele body. Custom nylon-core D'Addario strings optimize this bass's sound. And its level of projection is astonishing when you consider its size. Taylor's ES-B pickup ensures top-notch sound when you plug the GS Mini-e into a PA or your favorite amplifier. The Taylor GS Mini-e Bass is a great acoustic-electric bass for writing, recording, and performing.

It's a Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic/Electric bass. The bottom strap button doubles as an output jack. The pickup is inside the body.

I hate to derail the thread, but do you think the bass player got those smooth tones with the built in amplification and levels or do you think she was running some other effect boxes off screen?

Those types of basses are already smooth and acoustic sounding No pedals needed. I'm planning to buy one as I want to do some acoustic style stuff.

I hope H.E.R. and Jorja really blow up. Alina Baraz and Ella Mai, too.

I like the new crop of female R&B singers that go along the same vein as SZA, Jhene and Kali Uchis.

I hate that Tinashe switched up styles tho, and Sabrina Claudio don't buck with the sistas so I had to stop bumping her shit, I really liked her, too.
