Season One
Episode 1

Watched the series premiere tonight at home.

amc debuted it with no commercials. It was a full hour.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s best you do a Brain Dump on all the projects Giancarlo has done in the past 10+ years, the character he plays is no where close to what he has done that you may be familiar with. So don’t go expecting “Gus” version 2.0.

Not gonna spoil it for those who have not seen it yet. The basic premise is Parish owns a Taxi/Limo company that is struggling financially. He resorts to his old profession as a Transporter to get quick cash.

He is initially dealing with some Zimbabwe gangsters operating in New Orleans. Other characters look to be coming in later that was shown in the upcoming preview they showed at the end.

The first episode is a slow burn focused on primary character introduction/development along with story introduction. It looks like it will pick up in pace in a couple of episodes.

There will be 6 episodes in season one, so I’m gonna let a couple episodes stack up before catching up.

For the Militants, Giancarlo’s character is married to a WW and he has bi-racial daughter with her.

One of my favorite actors...killed it in breakin bad/better call sal..parish s01e01 rings of contrived hollywood formula.

Giancarlo Esposito's New Series Gets Lambasted by Critics, But Viewers Don't Agree

BY JEREMY DICK
April 1, 2024

Giancarlo Esposito has stuck around at AMC by starring in an all-new series for the network following the end of Better Call Saul, and its debut Rotten Tomatoes scores have been revealed.

Consisting of six episodes, the first episode of Parish premiered on AMC and AMC+ on March 31. To kick off the series, the show drew a Rotten Tomatoes score of 33% with early screenings of the series, as the critics were not very kind to the show. However, viewers were a lot more appreciative, as the audience score is much higher at 80%. However, the audience score notably only applies to the first episode, while critics have been able to watch all six installments of the season.

"Parish fumbles all its themes, barely scratching the surface of them, and delivers a show that feels generic, soulless, and ultimately forgettable," Collider critic Erick Massoto said in a review. The Pittsburgh Tribune's Rob Owen also said, "Bad choices naturally lead to worse outcomes in this anti-hero series that would have been innovative in 2005 but today feels like a dull relic."

Giancarlo Esposito Has Been Getting Praise

While the reviews are largely negative, many critics are praising Giancarlo Esposito for his work on the show, even if they're unsatisfied with most everything else about Parish. As Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com stated, "The show suffers from a problem that sometimes arises when such a strong personality anchors it—everything else struggles to keep up." Slant Magazine critic Ross McIndoe added, "It's shame that the series doesn’t give star Giancarlo Esposito more opportunities to put his action-oriented skills to use."

While calling the series "excruciatingly slow," CBR's own Katie Doll also gave high praise to Esposito. Doll's review noted, "Esposito is a clear-cut draw for fans of his past work, and he certainly won't fail his audience."

The series stars Giancarlo Esposito as Gray Parish, a former criminal who's attempted to move on and live a normal life as a family man. Unfortunately, old habits return after Gray's son is tragically killed, putting him on a quest for payback. Parish is inspired by The Driver by Danny Brocklehurst and Jim Poyser, and Brocklehurts developed the TV series with Sunu Gonera. Along with Esposito, the show also stars Arica Himmel, Paula Malcomson, Ivan Mbakop, Bonnie Mbuli, Zackary Momoh, Dax Rey, and Skeet Ulrich.

On AMC, Esposito previously starred as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He has been teasing his desire to see more of Gus Fring's story told in a potential prequel series. The actor can also be seen in the upcoming Netflix series The Residence, which also stars Uzo Aduba, Jason Lee, and Randall Park.

Parish premiered on AMC on March 31 and the premiere episode is streaming on AMC+. New episodes are released on Sundays.

I thought it was just ok...kinda slow

The story kinda cliché

Hope it gets better

Giancarlo Esposito is turning in another great performance as a driver haunted by loss and finds himself painted into a corner financially so he accepts the role as a driver for a local gangster.
I almost didnt recognize Skeet Ulrich and it's great to see Paula Malcomson in a series again.Even though it's a bit cliched it's going to be interesting to watch just how much trouble Parish gets into

A spicy European mixed with African is literally the vast majority of "Hispanic" in New York. If you go to Casablanca from Santo Domingo you'd swear you are in the same country until the religious police freaks out on you for trying to bring a woman into your hotel room.

Yall finna ack like these two niggas wasn't in a movie with the black Goat director in a movie about the ultimate black issues at the time.

Colorism.
Apartheid.

This look alone says a thousand words about the struggle up to that point.

No disrespect to anyone but Lawrence is the black GOAT because he's one of the few black child actors to a have a Hall of Fame career.

He's past his prime but none of the actors you mentioned have a movie as roll as bigs as Morpheus. Maybe this is Parish is Espisitos big good guy role but he's been typecast a bad guy so far.

Lawrence character in King of New York was one of the rawest street characters I'd had seen other than Nino Brown.

When I really think about it, I would take Snipes, Fishburne, and Washington before Espisito, Wright, and Jackson. All great actors. But they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Sooo the naacp award and essence and bet awards are chop liver??

Really?

If that's what you got from what I wrote imma have to ignore you for awhile

I'm saying having them isn't enough celebrate them attend the award shows have them on your promotion. Make them really OUR academy awards. We need to give them weight and value.

Maybe I'll see you in a few weeks.
