Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson has apologized on Twitter after throwing an errant pass that hit a female fan in the face during Charlotte’s 92-76 victory on Friday. The woman was reportedly hospitalized for precautionary reasons but was not seriously injured.
“Nailed a lady tonight with a pass,” Henderson wrote. “If u follow me on twitter PLEASE tweet me. I know that hurt. I’m not that good of a passer. I AM SO SORRY.”
Henderson has averaged just 1.8 assists per game during his five-year career.
With a little less than 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter and Charlotte leading 53-45, Henderson attacked the paint from the right angle. Pulling up quickly, he attempted to throw a cross-court pass to Jeff Taylor but he put way, way too much mustard on it, sailing the ball over the courtside seats. The ball then contacted the woman as she walked from center court towards the baseline, knocking her to the ground directly to the ground.
Good news: This one has a (somewhat) happy ending.
A Bobcats events employee stated on Twitter that the woman was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons but is “OK.” He further noted that the Bobcats gave the woman an autographed pair of Henderson’s game-worn Air Jordans for her trouble.
