George Jung Daughter Kristina Says Visit in ‘Blow’ Movie Not Like Real Life; Jung and Daughter Patching Things Up

George Jung finally got his release from prison this week and is wasting no time in getting his family affairs in order.

Jung spoke to his daughter Kristina over the phone on Monday, shortly after he was released about a half-a-year earlier than scheduled for unspecified reasons.

Jung is perhaps best-known for being portrayed in the movie “Blow,” by Johnny Depp. In the film, his relationship with his daughter does not end well.

In real life, Jung was arrested once when Kristina was only one years old, and again several years later.

It’s rumored that she lives in California together with her husband and children. It’s also rumored that she didn’t visit her father in prison until the spring of 2002.

Ted Demme interviews George Jung in 2001

Ted Demme dies in 2002

Blow director Ted Demme died in the prime of life early this year, reportedly after collapsing during a basketball game while high on cocaine. His passing adds yet another tragic death to Hollywood's long list of untimely, drug-related celebrity deaths.
Demme had cocaine in his system at the time of his death, Los Angeles coroners' officials said. A blood clot in Demme's heart muscle caused his death, which was ruled "accidental."

Demme suffered "sudden cardiac death" after playing basketball the afternoon of Jan. 13, 2002. He took himself out of the game and then collapsed on the bench. He was admitted to Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, where attempts to revive him failed.

Edward "Ted" Demme was declared dead at 5:28 p.m.

He was 37.

Demme weighed over 200 pounds and played basketball five times a week. He referred to himself as husky. "We're a minority that's been deprived of work for years," he once said.

That was hardly the case with Demme, who gained notoriety in 1988 as the cofounder and producer of "Yo! MTV Raps." He directed three Dennis Leary movies (No Cure for Cancer, Lock N' Load, The Ref) as well as Beautiful Girls and Life. He also coproduced Tumbleweeds and A Lesson Before Dying.

But Demme's claim to fame will always be Blow, his drug-smuggling epic, which was named Best Movie at the 2002 HIGH TIMES Stony Awards.

"I thought it was really important to show why all these things exist," he told the Arizona Reporter.

"People like to escape and have fun and get high on whatever they want to get high on. So I thought it was important to show that and not judge it.

"I used to love getting high," Demme added. "Those were the best days of my life. What about now? Well, I can't do it anymore."

Demme was working on two upcoming projects, the aquatic thriller
Nautica and a documentary about '70s movies. He left behind his music-producer wife, Amanda Scheer, and their two children.

George Jung Released: Cocaine smuggler played by Johnny Depp in Blow is freed from prison

George Jung – the cocaine smuggler portrayed by Johnny Depp in Blow – has been released from prison, after nearly two decades.

The 71-year-old left FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey yesterday 2 June. He was due to be freed in November, but was released early.

TMZ*reports that he will allegedly live in a West Coast half-way house until he adjusts to society. He was arrested in 1994 with 1,754 pounds of cocaine in Kansas and pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy before being sentenced to 70 years in prison.

His sentence was cut by nearly 20 years after he testified against his ex-partner Carlos Lehder.

Jung started drugs-smuggling during the Sixties when he began smuggling cannabis bought in California back to New England. His operation expanded until he was eventually arrested in 1974 when he was arrested in Chicago for smuggling 660 pounds of marijuana.

Jung was sentenced to prison in Danbury, Connecticut, where he made his first connections in cocaine trafficking. His cellmate was Carlos Ledher, who introduced him to an organised network of drug suppliers and smugglers called Medellín Cartel.

After they left prison, Ledher and Jong went into business and earned millions through drug-smuggling. He is said to have been responsible for 85 per cent of cocaine imported into the US during the Seventies and Eighties.

During his latest incarceration, he met Johnny Depp – who played him in the 2001 film Blow.
