George Edward Foreman (nicknamed "Big George"[2]) (born January 10, 1949) is a retired American professional boxer, former two-time World Heavyweight Champion, Olympic gold medalist, ordained Baptist minister, author and entrepreneur. After dropping out of school at the age 15, later training in California as a boxer for a couple of years, he went on to be a gold medalist at the 1968 Olympics, Foreman won the World Heavyweight title with a second round knockout of then-undefeated Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica in 1973. He made two successful title defenses before losing to Muhammad Ali in "The Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974. He was able to secure another title shot, but retired following a loss to Jimmy Young in 1977. He has said he was reborn following that fight, and subsequently became a practicing minister in the Houston area. Ten years later, Foreman announced a comeback. In November 1994, at age 45, he regained the Heavyweight Championship by knocking out Michael Moorer. He remains the oldest Heavyweight Champion in history. He retired in 1997 at the age of 48, with a final record of 80–5, including 78 knockouts.

Foreman has been inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame. The International Boxing Research Organization (IBRO) rates Foreman as the eighth greatest heavyweight of all-time.[3] In 2002, he was named one of the 25 greatest fighters of the past 80 years by The Ring magazine.[4] The Ring ranked him as the 9th greatest puncher of all-time.[5] He was a ringside analyst for HBO's boxing coverage for twelve years, leaving in 2004.[6] Outside of boxing, he is a successful entrepreneur and is known for his promotion of the George Foreman Grill, which has sold over 100 million units worldwide.[7] In 1999 he sold the naming rights to the grill for $138 million.[

My entire family grew up with him in 5th ward.

This cat was not to be tested. EVER. My mom told me he was the real Debo, minus the happy ending with Craig at the end.

The George Foreman Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine, commonly known as the George Foreman Grill, is an indoor, electrically heated grill manufactured by Spectrum Brands. It is promoted by former boxing champion George Foreman. Since its introduction in 1994, over 100 million George Foreman grills have been sold worldwide. The Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine, as it became known, was introduced in 1994 and promoted with distinctive infomercials which featured Foreman. A combination of his affable personality and the unique features of the product made it a huge success. The product gained a certain success that it had previously not been able to attain prior to Foreman's endorsement. Such was the popularity of these infomercials that Foreman's famous tagline, "It's so good I put my name on it!",[5] is now part of popular culture.

George Foreman won a gold medal in the boxing/heavyweight division at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games. In the finals, Foreman defeated the Soviet Union's Jonas Čepulis; the referee stopped the fight in the second round.Čepulis' face was already bleeding in the first round from Foreman's punches, and had to take a standing eight count early in the second round.[17] Čepulis, fighting out of Lithuania, was a 29-year-old veteran with a 12-year-long amateur career, having over 220 fights in his record, quite experienced, and 10 years older than Foreman.

  • Round of 16: defeated Lucjan Trela (Poland) on points, 4–1
  • Quarterfinal: defeated Ion Alexe (Romania) referee stopped contest, 3rd round
  • Semifinal: defeated Giorgio Bambini (Italy) by a second-round knockout
  • Final: defeated Jonas Čepulis (Soviet Union) referee stopped contest, second round
After winning the gold-medal fight, Foreman walked around the ring carrying a small U.S. flag and bowing to the crowd. Foreman maintained that earning the Olympic gold medal was the achievement he was most proud of in his boxing career, more so than either of his world titles.
