I hate this revisionist history bull@#$^@#^@#&@^@#$@#^@#$ for two reasons.
1. This @#$^@#&#$*$%($%()$^)%^($^($ knows he is telling a blatant LIE. He was the only credible person that the White House could roll out there to plead its sorry case for war. He knew that then and he knows it now. NOTHING in his UN speach gave me or the world any indication that he did not think war was an option.He has the audacitty, in all seriousness, to ask "What" could he have done?!?!?

!?!?!?!?!?!? How about, I don't know, address the UN by saying: "Like I adamantly said in 1991, Iraq does not pose a threat to the US. We are certain that are efforts during the Gulf War severly crippled his weapons capabilities like we touted two years ago. Thank you for your time". That would have been one of a thousand alternate phrases he could have uttered that day.
This is why we have no credibility and are seen as a laughing stock around the world in foreign affairs. Incompotent, arrogant, unrepentant bunglers the lot of them - especially Powell. He did not have to go out like that.
2. WTF is up with these pussified reporters?!?!? No one, in the position to, stops "leaders" in their tracks when they are spinning spin! This dude is usually credible, but he let Powell slide with that whack @$$ retort. This a large part of why things continue to slide down hill with our political infrastructure. No credible reporters to ask tough questions and expose the truth....
