Game Of Thrones: The Sopranos with swords or Dynasty in chainmail?

I understand what y'all saying about the wall, and I think it was just lazy writing in an otherwise well written show.

Because you guys are mentioning nobles and regular people in Jon snow and fat boy. They chose to go there but they weren't criminals.

I guess I keep thinking of the people going to the wall like they were in that one scene with aria headed to the wall.... A caravan of misfits and losers being transported there somewhat against their will and not just some folks rolling up like HEY I WANNA DO THIS HOOK A BROTHER UP YO!

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

I don't think it's bad writing, if the choice is to go to the wall or face harsher punishment... even if not being escorted, I can see a criminal just going there if they don't feel like being on the run the rest of their lives...especially considering they will get food and shelter being there and not be on lock down

it's like if you're sending kids to boot camp or some shit, once they are there, in the right scenario or just from being around each other long enough, you would make friends and form cliques

Who is gonna do anything to him though? In the past, Ned Stark executed deserters, but he's gone. Ned's Oldest son is gone... and the North belongs to this guys boss, at least officially.

I'm just confused as to what his exit strategy is. Assuming that he successfully gets information from Jon, what does he do next .... just going to walk away? I didn't think leaving the wall and breaking the oath was that easy. Especially since he would have to make it through the North before he'd reach back to the Dreadfort.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

The wall is GRRM's distorted version of French Foreign Legion - in the legion it didn't matter if you are a murder or what country you are from... they took you in and trained you and if you survived service (7 or 10 years) - you could choose to leave with a nice payout, French citizenship and a clean slate. There were a few stories of men committing murder then enlisting the next day or criminals on the run signing up and of course the choice after a criminal conviction do time or serve...

...and isn't the old blind dude a part of the Targaryen family?

For regular people the Nights Watch is for criminals and orphans. For Nobles it's more complicated.

You've got people who like Ned's brother Benjen (from season 1) who probably Volunteered. He's like a 3rd son who is never going to inherit (boy was he wrong) so you take a shot at being a leader or commander beyond the wall.

Lord Commander Moremont volunteered because he was ashamed of what his son (Jorah) did in selling some of his people to slavers.

Then you got losers like Janos Slint who basically just fell out of favor with more important people in Kings Landing. So they get a choice, Take the Black or end up in a gutter in Kings Landing or your head on a pike.

Again I think I just have that understanding of going to the wall as what they showed earlier with aria and her trip to the wall.

...and isn't the old blind dude a part of the Targaryen family?

yeah he was like the 8th son of a seventh son of a King. Never thought he would inherit so he went to Citadel to be a Maester and then took the black.

In the world of Westeros, I guess people are expected to have some sense of honor where it's better the serve the realm at the wall, than just run around being a rich playboy and fuking wenches at the local bar.

Wish our world was more like that. :(

I must have to go back and read. Because in the book he talks about how knew some men for the pie and doves or something like that.

Can you and count go discuss the books elsewhere?

Man boy, every week its some fuckin idiot or two who cant seem to

Understand this very simple request! This is about the tv show! Take

That book shit on! We dont know or care whats going on in the books.

questions? I thought the Walkers were marching towards the wall. Didn't the fat dude see them at the end of a season?

The deserters on the other side of the wall.........why don't the widlings attack them?

Man. I find it so hard to keep up with all the shit going on in Thrones...I'm just as confused as you are

The White Walkers are ancient beings, they've been at Westeros for thousands of years....

I don't think the wildlings have come into the vicinity of them as yet, which is why Jon us racing to get to the deserters before the wildlings do.

The Vanguard of wildlings is already over the wall.

But Mance and the main force might stop at dirty ole Craster's, which seems to be like the pit stop going north or south.

Or it's new designation, Orgy World 5, I mean, SOME of Craster's, " Wives " are probably willing.

DJ Hodor?! Didnt see that one coming

Dude talks about having to act scenes and show a broad range of emotions with saying really only one word.. Kinda cool

Mr Lengthy

So without going too much into detail, book readers, are you enjoying the deviation from the source material or would you prefer it stick to the books?

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

these deviations are minor, and since the show runners know how the whole story will end and GRRM consults and writes on the series with them, I'm sure the deviations are part of the setup for the last 2 books
The deviations are not minor. The showrunners have changed EVERYTHING regarding Jon Snow, Bran and the Wall. This is a whole new story.

The show runners don't know the whole story. GRRM gave them an idea of how things will end, but not the particulars.

GRMM writes one episode per season. That's it.

GRMM has discussed several times the Butterfly Effect that is going on with the show. The showrunners have killed, kept alive or simply deleted characters throughout the series without knowing how things will turn out in the final two books. GRRM warned them and said fuck it and just keeps collecting his checks.

Great episode….the whitest white walkers showed up and Donald Sterling smiled. As usual here are my stretched out observations from “Oathkeeper”

  • This episode opens with a scene of fire and ends with a touch of ice
  • Is that Grey Worm or Doc Rivers can't decide by the way he jumped to attention and said my Queen to the white woman in the room
  • Khaleesi damn why you cockblock on Young Obama? He was working on showing Missandei the fist of the Summer Isles

    tumblr_n4q0ggdwtq1s2zvqdo1_500.gif

  • Unsullied Team Six arrives by sea and breaks into Mereen easily and drops off blades
  • Danaerys taking over cities without the Dragons? Just a flag and Slavers are shook like she's Blackbeard.
  • Astapor had a nostalgia store that made Targaryen flags and other paraphernalia
  • Slaves rushed that master in the alley like BGOL rushes threads featuring white women

    jumped.gif

  • Jamie let the tadpoles swim in Cersei last week and now he's swirling his sword with the left...evil ass is good for the soul
  • Bronn was supposed to slap the shit out of Jamie with that golden hand...like any older brother would
  • Bronn is the MVP of all of Westeros "are you going to fight for him now?"
  • The Kingslayer brothers (rock band) sharing jail stories sounded like last Wednesday at the barbershop
  • Cersei treats Jamie like a worker bee in her hive, while keeping Dornish Mist in business
  • Shawn Kemp takes more responsibility for his kids than the Kingslayer! "Her son?"- Tyrion "Our son" - Cersei
  • Oathkeeper? She didn't keep her oath to Renly or Lady Stark...I expect another failure
  • Podrick conveyed what everyone in KL thinks about Brienne "strange looking dude...Ser, My Lady"
  • Arya, Sansa and Brienne are all headed to the Refugee central at the Eyrie? Lyssa too busy lactating and feeding to notice
  • Littlefinger with the Sun Tzu "A man with no motive is a man no-one suspects. Always keep your foes confused. If they don't know who you are or what you want, they can't know what you plan to do next."
  • Littlefinger "grow strong" line was clever and revealing
  • The Queen of thrones reminiscing on how she used to throw that pussy "I was good back then" hilarious

    diana-rigg.jpg

  • “Marrying a Targaryen was all the rage back then.” they were the Westerosi Kennedy's
  • Lady Olenna grabbed Margaery necklace like she did Sansa's at the wedding. Same move manipulates futures of both ladies
  • Tommen was dazed in his bed....should have made Lady Wet Dream sit on the Iron Throne instead of busting in the sheets
  • Ser Pounce? Jofferey still terrorizes from all 7 Hells, has Tommen worried about eating his pet in the royal Salisbury steak
  • BTW the last two Kings that slept in Tommen's room died suspiciously, and security let the King Whisperer in too easy
  • Locke makes me uncomfortable the Bolton crew is grimy and frightening, like CACs buying mayo
  • The kid whose parents were killed by the Engineers and Ygritte has joined the nights watch
  • Kobe and MJ are worried about the young lion: Thorne and Slynt know the Night's Watch belongs to Jon Snow, but still holding on.
  • Poor Crasters daughters are like Mississippi girls...don't know enough to expect more from life so they provide head and cornbread.
  • The Night's watch deserters are in full Ariel Castro mode at Crasters Keep; while Karl wears his Gin Alley letterman’s jacket 15 years after graduation
  • They are treating Hodor like Chewbacca on Cloud City, can't wait for Hodor unchained

    hodor-nooo.gif

  • White walkers only let babies in the crew, are they just an army of scary looking nannies?
  • Noticeable absence from Oberyn and Tywinn
  • Looks like George Carlin is taking the baby Ka-el to Castle Greyskull in Eternia
  • Albino Darth Maul stopped searching for Frodo and the One ring to touch babies with the frostbite

there's a 10 year gap between the 3rd and 4th book, so i'm quite sure that grmm is moderately pleased that he isn't necessarily pressured to churn out another tome in order to supply material for the show.

Aging is a muthafuckka :smh:...Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) was a dime piece back in the day..

Man shut the fuck up. If you look a page back spider asked a question to book readers. Me nor Count said any damn thing that hasn't happened already. Not even a reference. Not one spoiler. How the fuck is a comparison in the way dude died "spoiling" something ?

Funny, how Alliser is shitting on Jon and yet if it wasn't for Jon about the wildlings, the Night Watch would be unprepared for them...

And how the hell does Jonas Slynt get so much influence....:hmm:
I tell you, there is nothing worse than piss poor leadership. Damn. I've been fighting that my whole life. Idiots in charge. At my job is the easiest way to be promoted, be totally incompetent at your job.

My dumbass watched that whole entire episode and it just dawned on me who old buddy is that just made friends with jon snow is.....:smh:

How he make it to the wall so fast and get put on so easily? Didn't one of the guys call him a ranger when he was checking snow, then snow called him a recruit in the mess hall? I gotta watch this shit again....

who is that dude? Is that the guy that cut off Jamie's hand? I wasn't sure about that

That's why I didn't quite catch who he was off rip because I was shocked at how fast he got to the wall.

I wasn't expecting to see him there until next week and u would have liked to have seen some background as to how he got there when he got there etc etc

Naw I think they played it perfect.

No filler or unnecessary shit, especially this season.

I just rewatched the episode again.

I loved the scene between Sansa and Littlefinger. I like how he was questioning her, forcing her to think and figure it out. Thats exactly the type of thing she needs.

So the white walkers were not the "dead army" that was maching towards the wall?

The White Walkers are living beings that's been in Westeros, for thousands of years ....Think of them as another species that people forgot over the years...

They have to use magic like raise the dead, which we saw in Season 1 and 2...

The person that's attacking Jon is a wight

The humanoid being on the horse is a White Walker, but the people that's walking are wights

Many people think White Walkers and wights are the same thing, but its not...

White Walkers = living beings

wights = zombies
