Ned saw Lyanna in Arya and decided to support her spirit ...and not force her to be a lady

Everyone said he was having a 'PTSD moment', thinking about the battlefield... but your comment makes me wonder if Ned was actually watching Arya and remembering 'what it sounded like' when his sister LYANNA was in the courtyard TRAINING with Sir Roderick and all the other Men at Winterfell,
instead of thinking about any specific battle. 
If so, Lyanna would probably have been the ONLY female out there...
which is a sight that someone like Ned would never really forget.
A sight like that is 'flashback worthy', imo.
And also provides lots of foreshadowing.

Prediction:
Jamie and Bron swim to the surface and get captured by Dany's crew. Dany throws them into prison and Tyrion, still feeling some allegiance to Jamie and Bron, helps them escape. Dany finds out and kills Tyrion and Varys. Danys turn to the darkside is complete and she becomes one of the villians in the story.

Jamie and bronn get captured, tyrion convinces dany to have Jamie sabotage from within as he knows winning is impossible and he's promised a position. Cersei becomes more cruel and Jamie slays her

But Tyrion will convince Dany not to kill them, somehow. But she won't just spare their lives & let them walk away, so easily.
So I think Jamie will most likely be used as a bargaining chip... in a 'prisoner of war exchange' for Yara Greyjoy & Illaria Sand.
And I bet Bronn is gonna have to fight in some sort of Dothraki ritual... in a (makeshift) 'fighting pit' (or Gladiator arena) for his own freedom.
Like a 'trial by combat' type of scenario.
Pretty sure now that Bronn is the person seen pulling out a sword, at the 1:23 mark of the season 7 trailer.
Most likely in a fight for his life.
