Game Of Thrones: The Sopranos with swords or Dynasty in chainmail?

I worry about the costs of the show, I remember the HBO show Rome had high ratings and was good but they had to cancel it due to the high cost of doing the show. I hope that doesn't happen here.

I have a potential spoiler question so if your worried don't read the following questions

I have a question for those who have read the books. I haven't read them yet but I am aware of a couple of things that happen in the first book (especially a particular death) and I stil can't imagine the show following the book completely because it sems too risky IMO.

Here are my questions: 1) Do you think they will follow the book completely and 2) as someone who has read the books would it bother you/make the show less entertaining and intriguing if they don't?

I read somewhere Game of Thrones was alot cheaper compare to Rome.

1.I hope they do because at the end of the book it help set up the second book "A Clash of Kings"

2.Im currently listening to the second book but if they stray from the second book,it better make sense.

I will say this they will probably need to make more episodes for each season because from what I understand each book is slightly longer than the previous book...

So is there no possibility that Jon Snow could be the son of Robert Barathean, since the Queen Cersei said that her first baby boy died at birth, and was black of hair, unlike the other kids who are blonde?

If Cersei was about 15 when she had the first baby, that would fit with Jon Snow's age, which is about 20, making Cersei about 35-40 ish.

Jon Snow could be King Robb's rightful heir...but what about the guy who is the welder, that is also Robb's illegitimate son?

I never read the books, but I have watched the first 7 episodes of the series.

Props on the links.

I feel you and I'm sure there will be more episodes (most likely 13) next season.

From what I've heard it does appear that its important for them to stick to the books.

However with what is supposed to happen this season with a certain character ( you know what I'm talking about) is too risky IMO for a television show, at least this early and in the first season. People get a lot more attached to characters on TV than they do in books. Removing important characters can ruin shows, I'm just woried about the response and consequences.

For example I remember with True Blood the Lafayette character was supposed to be killed/dead in the second season but they realized the risk was too high and deviated from the book in that instance. I'm wondering of GOT will do the same as it may be in their best interest.

Imo sacrificing a great story for the sake of moronic audiences that fall in love w/ characters is what ruins shows...I already went thru that shit recently w/ The Walking Dead

they follow the books pretty good so far..i'd say damn near 90-95% ..... phrases, and everything..... they are keeping pretty close.. but i heard the writer is one of the producers, and this is his Magnum Opus ...he's not gonna let them fuck this up....they are doing a lot better job than True Blood...or Lord of the Ring IMO.....i think they will stay true to the books... mostly because of the authors fearlessness in terms of his kill rate, and who dies is gonna keep people hooked....plus its one of his strong suits.... i've read all the books... waiting for the next one.... and i'm just trying to see where they are going to end this one.....

They need to have that particular event to happened because it what officially start the war.....imo....Im hoping the last episode of the season is 2 hours(but I doubt it) because they need to fit in all the other stuff in also....

From what I observed and read from wikipedia and other forums a certain character is real important to the story...

I hear you but I think that's a little dismissive at the same time. The risks of killing off a character in a book is different because there is no attachment being that the character only exists in your mind and in print, where as on screen you can see the characters and their interactions with others, how they handle situations, etc. And a great/good actor can pull you in. I don't think its moronic I think its natural and happens t all of us.

At the same time the books are what make this a great story (so I hear) so to not follow them and risk losing/ruining the story is just as great a risk. I haven't gotten a chance to see The Walking Dead but I can imagine what your saying.

I guess without having read any of the books Its hard to imagine how they'll procede.

I don't mind characters being killed but IMO its all about timing. For example unlike other people I had no problem with Stringer dying on The Wire because I felt like the timing was perfect and benefited the storyline. Howeved had he been killed earlier
I don't know if it would have worked.

I'm going to read the books after each season (if it gets that far) so I don't ruin the show for myself. I like watching without knowledge of what will happen beforehand so I don't want to give that up, it may cause me to lose interest in the show. Ill start the first book after this season.

Yeah that's what I gather I just hope it doesn't affect the show after.

I doubt the last show will be over an hour but I do wonder if that event we are talking about will happen exactly at the end of the season finale (sort of a cliffhanger) and carry into next season (like the first episode of season 2 is the reaction, fallout, etc.) Or will it happen in the next two episodes to get it out the way and use that time to set up other characters.

I think that event will happened next week,Im hoping it does because the other event that takes place at the end of the book will probably be the last episode....I think everyone will like that episode alot.

I dont think they will do the Robb story though.....:smh:

No disrespect but that's where being "moronic" comes in (maybe the word 'moronic' is too strong but imo tv audiences are just too simple)...for an avid reader often times the characters you read about stay w/ you longer than characters you see on tv...the show has done a great job w/ the characters...the book does it better as you have insight to their thoughts and past relationships/connections thru quick flashbacks...reading the book has made me more vested in the characters...unfortunately I know now what happens...it's fucked up...but the writing was on the wall so it was expected even tho I didn't want it to happen...but it made perfect sense and was arguably inevitable...the show has done a good job of leading us down the same path...as dude said I really don't see how the show can avoid this since it's the catalyst for the events to follow...by the end of this season we will know if the show has balls or a cunt...I been thru this w/ The Walking Dead...the show started off great and took a disappointing hit the last 2 eps...this is why I like to remain "ignorant" sometimes and just stick to the show...the books are always better

Does anyone have the Book 3 A Storm of Swords Audiobook read by Roy Dotrice that they can post? I have a version not by Dotrice, but I got hooked on his reading of the first 2 books.

They got another person to read "A Feast For Crows",heard he's awful....Roy Dotrice dont read the fourth book becauase he was busy at the time, hopefully when "A Dance with the Dragon" comes out he returns

I dont understand why they have 3 different people reading the 3 books....:smh::smh::smh::smh:

According to Amazon, Dotrice is reading Book 5, A Dance with Dragons.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/0739375970/?tag=vp314-20

He also did a version of book 3 A Storm of Swords, but the version floating around the board is just horrible and the reader pronounces the names differently and everything so im thinking about breaking down and buying the Dotrice version. .

Judging by how they've done season 1 I'm guessing they're going to follow next two books pretty closely, especially if they keep it to 1 season per book. The biggest difference is that the books are written from the POV of a character, and each chapter is what that character sees and THINKS. Since hearing a characters thoughts doesn't translate well into this type of show, people are definitely missing out on certain aspects of the POV characters.

What I'm worried about personally is the 4th book A Feast for Crows. Now don't get me wrong it's is a good book, but I believe they're going to have to combine A Feast for Crows(4th book), with the New book(A dance with Dragons), because a lot of the characters people love get kicked to the side to focus on other characters, if they do AFFC by itself the ratings are going to take a dive. Luckily AFFC and ADWD take place at the same time chronologically so it should be pretty easy to combine them both and make seasons 4 and 5 out of it.

As far as not following the book completely. They've had plenty of scenes in the first season that weren't in the book and they've done pretty well with it. In fact Any scene that doesn't have Arya, Sansa, Eddard, Catlyn, Bran, Daenerys, Tyrion and Jon in it isn't in the book(save for the first part of the first episode). So yeah as long as it isn't too drastic I don't mind small changes and additional scenes.

Yeah Roy Dotrice is the shit he really brings the characters to life. I ended just buying a physical copy of A feast for Crows, because the actor was so bad.

As far as Storm of Swords, I got my Roy Dotrice version off Demoniod, I can shoot you an invite if you don't have access. The torrent should be pretty well seeded too.

Tried doing a search for the Game of Thrones Audio book. Does anybody have a link to the first few books in Audio format?

The search engine is down.

Disclaimer:I got this from Demonoid but I read a comment saying some of the chapters are missing but someone said all the chapters are there.......I'm not sure because Im still listening to the second book.

Go to www.towerofthehand.com it has all the chapters for each book.

Also I got the Royce Dotrice version for "Game of Thrones" but my computer is acting up at the moment.

Can someone please upload it for me,I got it from demonoid also.

as far as ppl worried about that certain character dying and idiot fanboys, the fanboys actually think hes stupid for what he does and prolly welcome his death and be a nice twist. LOl at you ninjas who have to have ab audiobook and just cant read it, I guess you just that busy

I couldn't give a fuck less about this pedestrian CAC fantasy. As soon as I caught wind of the white supremacist subtext of all of that First Men crap (which was ripped-off from the equally racist Dúnedain (Aragorn's tribe) from LoTR) I summarily deleted the episodes I had and watched no more. :hmm:

This show is flawless; literally.

I hope they follow the actual series. The second season being titled "A Clash Of Kings" and so on.

Letting that scout loose:smh:, Robb proved that he is just as Naive as his Father.

Like Cersei said--> "In the Game Of Thrones, you either Win or Die".

I disagree.

It seemed to be an effort to give the Lannisters false information to aid in their attack.

Robb will probably attack Tywin instead of the father, also I wonder if the number (20000) was a low figure and maybe Robb figured that the Lannister's having a lower number could also aid them in a surprise attack.

Whatever the reason I definitely don't think he did it to be merciful, there was a reason behind it.

That's what I was thinking. He told his mother that he had eighteen thousand, and the enemy scout said he had counted twenty, maybe more, so I figured that he let the scout go in hopes that Tywin would fall back and let him capture the bridge.

"call me boy again........ go on......"
:lol::lol:

yeah, I give the series writers props here because they are basically giving some support for some action Robb will take later on. In the book, Robb's battle planning and fighting all takes place "off screen" which makes the end result a bit of Deus ex machina on the author's part.

I hope they show some of the battles next week.

Tired of that lil bitch boy king flexing on that throne like he earned it. I was hoping that old knight he disrespected at the end was gonna scar his face or something.:hmm:
