Galaxy S IV, Note 3 To Get KitKat In January, Galaxy S III, Note 2 To Get KitKat In March / April

20131122_151224.jpg

A newly leaked schedule reveals which will be the first Samsung devices to get Android 4.4 KitKat. As you could expected the first to get the new Android version are this and last year flagships - Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 will get the KitKat treatment just two months from now - in January, 2014. The 2012 ex-flagships Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III will be getting KitKat in March or April 2014.

The new Android 4.4 KitKat improves the UI performance thanks to its Project Svelte - the successor of Project Butter. This means all devices to be update with KitKat will become smoother and faster than ever, with even better multi-tasking and improved RAM management. We are sure Samsung will bring a few goodies to its TouchWiz UI, too.

There is no official confirmation on the roadmap and we can't verify if this document is indeed the real deal, so you should take this info with a healthy pinch of salt.

Finally. I didn't root my Note 2 as I'm not a big Rom had and since this is pretty much a company phone, i don't want to have to deal with constantly having to modify/replace and restore my settings & apps due to jumping from Rom to Rom

Yes I used to run Roms all the time when I had the og Evo & Galaxy Nexus. Just didn't see the need to root my Note when I got it and am too vested in current setup now to do it now

Nobody has yet explained the hype or use of kitkat. What are the features of it? Anything

Mostly tidied up a few things in the OS. Performance in 4.4 is noticeably smoother on my Nexus 4 than it was on 4.3 which wasn't a huge jump from 4.2.2. I also use the new Android Runtime (ART) which helps with performance too.

sleep for a couple of months and android leaves you behind...when you switch roms now any app that has a market link is automatically installed on your new rom as soon as you log into your google account...run titanium back up and restores the settings within individual apps...takes 5-10mins...I see some note 2 roms popping up that give it all of the features that the note 3 has...you should try one.

Good thing this thread popped up.
I just got an S3 which is fine for what I need it for but I'm thinking about getting a tablet. I saw the Samsung Tab and the Note. Main thing is I'd like the sketchpad feature but don't know if I should skip over the Google Nexus for just that feature alone.
What's the big feature difference between the note 2 and Note 3?

Re: Galaxy S IV, Note 3 To Get KitKat In January, Galaxy S III, Note 2 To Get KitKat

I just got 4.4 on my Nexus 7, can't really tell the difference :dunno:

I'm about to root the Note 3 onto my Note 2, the closest I'll get to 4.4 on that

Most of the differences are under the hood. ART, which was already explained, if great for battery life. Just read thishttp://www.searchenginejournal.com/11-awesome-features-make-android-4-4-kitkat-incredibly-sweet/76209/
4.4.1 is rolling out right note to nexus devices. I got it on my 7. Should have it on my 5 tomorrow. It includes bug fixes, camera improvement and a change to some icons.

http://www.talkandroid.com/187278-android-4-4-1-is-more-then-just-camera-fixes-for-the-nexus-5/

Android director of engineering David Burke announced just the other day that the team was working on Android 4.4.1, an update largely filled with bug fixes involving the Nexus 5 camera.

“All of this gets a boost with an update to Android 4.4.1 rolling out to Nexus 5,” Burke said. “It improves the camera with faster focusing, especially in low light, faster white balancing, for truer colors, the ability to pinch-zoom the viewfinder in HDR+ mode and less shutter lag.”

The update, which is now rolling out, will also come to the Nexus 4 and both Wi-Fi and LTE versions of Nexus 7 2013 model. Hit the break for all the details of the update:

1) The camera app on the Nexus 5 has become faster with the latest update.

2) The low volume output from Nexus 5 speaker in certain apps has been fixed.

3) The heptic feedback on Nexus 5 has also been tweaked.

4) There are some bug fixes related to ART. This allows Whatsapp to work with the ART runtime.

5) The default email client in Nexus 5 not syncing with an exchange server bug is also fixed now.

6) Immersive mode breaking while adjusting the volume level bug is fixed.

7) The new Photo app is now the default Gallery app.

8) There is slight improvement in benchmark performance of the Nexus 5.

9) The transparent status bar sometimes turning opaque issue on the Nexus 5 has fixed.

10) The navigation bar is now transparent on the Nexus 4 lockscreen.

11) The Settings icon in Quick tiles has been changed.

12) The Miracast setting has been renamed to Cast Settings.

13) Option for 4G/LTE under Mobile Data now shows “recommended.”

14) LED pulses more frequently for notifications.

15) Cell/Wi-Fi/Battery icons in the notification bar are now aligned properly.
