A Georgia man was arrested last week when he became violent with his wife for making his grilled cheese too cheesy.

James De Paola, 55, allegedly became enraged after his wife Michele made his sandwich with three slices of cheese instead of the two he requested, according to the Athens-Clarke County police report.

After getting his extra-cheesy grilled cheese, De Paola went into the kitchen to shout at his wife, so animated that spit hit her in the face.

Michele De Paola told one of her children to call 911, but De Paola blocked the 9-year-old girl from reaching it.

At that point, Michele De Paola attempted to pick up the phone but De Paola ripped the cord out and threw the phone into the living room.

De Paola told police he thought his wife’s reason for calling 911 was “stupid.”

The older daughter then called 911 from her mother’s cell phone and police reported to the scene.

Michele De Paola told police that her husband had a history of violent and abusive behavior in the past, including an arrest and a restraining order.

She said that he hasn’t been physically violent with her in “a while” but told police that he frequently gets angry, shouts, curses and tries to control her day-to-day activities.

De Paola didn’t hit her, she said, because he was too afraid of going back to jail.

He was charged with obstruction of a 911 call and criminal trespass/damage to property.
