FRIENDS
Friends or should I say so-called friends are rare. If you have one, consider yourself blessed and extremely lucky. If you have two you should play the lotto because you won’t lose. I will not attempt to categorize or define what a friend is because the term friend has different significance to different people based on their level of tolerance , understanding or willingness to give.
Be careful who you label as a friend. I prefer to acknowledge most of my social circle as acquaintances or associates. Most of these are people that I will have a meal with, in neutral territory like a restaurant or an after hours setting for business or a social event. I think it is best to keep a loose and realistic relationship with associates and acquaintances. You should be able to take them or leave them and not feel any real sense of loss, especially because you don’t know much about them. The ones you know more about are more likely to be kept at a distance the fact that you know more about them is probably the reason they are only associates and will remain so.
Do you really want to know them? Be careful, people have enormous amounts of baggage. If you know like I do, you’ll know that you have enough baggage of your own. I have picked up lots of extra baggage in my life, some I wish I hadn’t and some I wouldn’t have minded carrying a little further.
It’s a judgment call on your part, but use good common sense.
Its funny how you think you know someone only to find out that you don’t, even after years of association. Be very careful. Most people don’t even know themselves, so to say that you know them is a stretch. Friends are people that you use and that use you for things like companionship, money, advice, or as a pin cushion among other things. Keep in mind that your friends are foulable and will behave like human beings, meaning they have human traits and will make mistakes.
