Free Shaquanda Cotton Protest!

Fact: She is not in jail/prison, she's in juvie. There is a BIG difference.

Fact: She is not sentenced to 7 years. Her sentence says '...She is to remain at the facility until she either meets State rehabilitation standards or she reaches her 21st birthday.'
State Rehabilitation standards require her to meet academic, behavioral, and correctional goals. 1 year later she has not met these goals.

Fact: They offered her probation if she plead guilty. She rejected the plea and was found guilty and to this day maintains that she did not push the teacher.

Some say the sentence is too harsh. That's a reasonable point. Harsh is a subjective term. But I see this shit in court everyday, when you plead not guilty and go to trial you are gambling with your life, there are serious consequences and shit ain't gonna be sweet.

Not tryin to shit on ya'l movement, just thought I'd share some facts.

And for the record, if that was my daughter I would be the one in jail for whooping her ass if she ever raised her hand toward a school official.

Good to see someone around here with a background in law is actually analyzing this case with their BRAIN and the facts and not simply going with their heart and gut feelings

Perhaps you're missing some of the things I see. You're presumption of guilt is pretty quick. While I will say this issue isn't really with the judge or about racism. I believe this issue is more about Shaquanda and her mom. Not necessarily about race but the schools feelings towards her.

I will say her kid acts up moreso than usual. I wil. I believe she speaks in defense of her because her disablility effects her strongly. What I dont see is a POLICE RECORD, RECORD OF SUSPENSIONS, EARLIER SCHOOL RECORDS, REPORTS OF VIOLENCE its what i'm not seeing thats getting to me.

For her to be subjected to prosecution, even though witnesses say she was pushed first. Then the hall monitor wasn't prosecuted, this was an action taken by the school. It was done, not out of fear, but out of anger.

If you will note the witnesses all insisted her mother was the problem and she needed to be removed from her. If you dont recognize that this testimony is tainted by her mom's demonstration against the school that cited racism, you would really have to be a fool.

THIS WAS AN ACT OF REVENGE THAT WAS PURSUED BY THE SCHOOL! Because I believe school officials were absolutely furious when she claimed racism.

My wife is in Paris and has alot more insight than most in this case. The girl was given so much time because she was a problem in school and her single mom did not give a dam what she did. The courts tried to work with the mom but she pretty much had a leave me the fuck along attitude. The mom had a history with the school board and the girl would have walked if the mom would have agreed to release her to the custody of the grandparents. The mom is one of the reasons why she got so much time because the courts saw that she was a unfit parent. The sentence was still to harsh but the mom needs to bear some responsiblity to what had happened. Sorry mom, unruly child and white courts is a reciepe for disaster.

Ok, let this thread be a lesson for everyone...

Get the facts before you start screaming racisim.

There were many things in this case that led to her getting sentenced to a juvinile center for UP TO 7 years. Her being black was not one of them. Attitude, circumstance, and the willingness of her to take it to a jury were the main reasons for her sentence, and not probabtion.

I'm done here...my only point out of this whole ordeal is GET THE FACTS AND LEAVE EMOTION OUT OF IT.

Smh, how the 'ell can you say "her being black was not of them" unless you psychic?
Yes, there were other circumstances.
However you'd have to be a fool to think bigotry had absolutely nothing to do with the sentencing.

About bad as Blunt.
