Most of you have heard of the story of 14 year old Shaquanda Cotton who was to 7 years in prison for pushing a 58 year old white hall monitor.

The judge that handed her the sentence M.C. Superville Jr is the racist in the picture below.

Here is his contact information:
M.C. Superville Jr.
119 N. Main
Paris, Texas 75460
Phone (903) 737-2411
Fax (903) 785-3858
E-Mail Judge_Superville@co.lamar.tx.us

This same judge sentenced gave a 14 year old white girl 3 months of probation for arson!!!!

If your in the Dallas / Fort-Worth Area and listen to Rickey Smiley on 97.9, they are organizing a protest in Paris Texas on Tuesday 3/27. The location and time will be announced on Monday 3/26 and I'll be there. Its just plain wrong that this child has been sentenced to 7 years of hell in prison just for pushing a white lady.

I encourage all of the BGOL fam to write or e-mail to the racist Judge the Governor of Texas, and the State Senators expressing outrage and requesting that this girl be set free.

Update

Link to local news coverage of the protest.

I went to the protest today and we had a good turn out. Traveling to that small town was like going back in time to the 60s. They

I want to give props to Rickey Smiley and 979 for putting the protest together. I would say about 500 people showed up in the pouring rain to protest. It attracted several news crews and hopefully will generate enough attention to get this little girl out of jail.

We have to stand up for injustice against our people, especially when its committed against our little girls. If we dont do anything it could be your daughter tomorrow.

Here are a few pictures from the protest. Notice all the white court house officials looking out the window in the second pic. Some had the audacity to smile and laugh at us from the upper windows!!! I took these with my cell phones and was unable to zoom in.

I still encourage people to write letters and e-mails letting people Governor, Oprah, the ACLU, etc, because its not over yet.

I Heard The Mother And Her Friend Today On The Al Sharpton Show
Saying That The Daughter Was Being Punished For Her Mothers Actions.

The Mother And Her Friend Were Already Community Activist And
Have Had Prior Confrontations With The School Administration
Because Of The Differences In Discipline
Between White Students And Black Students.

Her Daughter Is Now Being Made An Example Of By That System
Because Of Her Mothers Past Actions And Outspokeness.

They Are Saying To Call The Governers Office To Let Them Know
That This Is An Injustice And Needs To Be Corrected, Immeadiatly !

i just sent my letter to the judge and aclu. After reading this I couldn't let it ride without doing something. And will be looking to see what more I can do.

I tried ringing his office yesterday and it was busy (says it all), i sent a email instead.
Someone needs to start a official online petition, i don't have the web knowhow to do it but if someone made one i'd def sign it and get anyone i knew to aswell!

Sir,

With all due respect, I think you need to resign your position as judge. I am amazed at how openly racist, a person who was appointed to judge those in his community objectively, obviously is. I read how you sentenced a white girl who burned her parents home to the ground to probation and another man who murdered two others to a no less lenient punishment. Ms. Cotton is a victim of ignorance and small town justice. I'm not sure what your agenda is but you need to look at the constitution of the United States and ask yourself if your a mature enough indidvidual to complete the tasks which you were employed to carry out. For the sake of those in your small and insignifigant community please grow up. And sir, wether or not you believe in God, you will be judged for ruining this young womans life. I'm sure if you really wanted to help her there were other options... counseling..... anything?

God bless

This is my e-mail fellas, this is something that we need to really be together on. We spend mad time talking about injustices and all that so just send an e-mail or a letter. So to those people always talking about how some black person is making us all look bad-man up and do something for us other than jacking your jaws

Here is my letter to the judge.

---------------------
Dear Judge Superville of the Lamar County Court
Paris Texas:

I would like to say that I am outraged with your decision to sentence 14 year old Shaquanda Cotton to seven years in prison for shoving the hall monitor at school. It is clearly evident that your dislike of African Americans played a large role in handing this sentence because months earlier you sentenced a white girl convicted of arson to probation. Arson causes property damage, puts the lives of the residents, and he lives of firefighters at great risk. I and many others can not comprehend how you could sentence a child convicted of arson to a lesser sentence than a child convicted of shoving a teacher. The only logical explanation is that you have racially biased views against African Americans.

How would you feel if your daughter was sentenced to seven years in prison for a similar crime? I’m sure you know in your heart that your decision was excessive and you need to hold yourself accountable for ruining this child’s life. It is completely unethical to use personal feelings when issuing sentences and I would like you to resign.

I would like you to know that I along with thousands of others have written the Governor of Texas, the state senators, and the ACLU of Texas regarding this issue.

----------------

I also sent one to the Governor requesting that her pardon her and set her free.

Wheres the NEW BLACK PANTHERS when you need them? KHALID would'v been there with GUNS DRAWN..

but serious, writing the judge wont get anything done, we need to be writing OPRAH. She makes things happen. Writing the Judge will fall on deaf ears.

Thats a great idea. I just submitted a letter to Oprah on her web site. Oprah is very compassionate and Im sure the girl will be set free if she gets on the case.

She gave 10 million to the hurricane katrina victims, built a school in africa and has done countless other good deeds.

Here's the URL to e-mail her. If enough people submit one it may actually get to her.

This is the letter I wrote to the Governor of Texas, and I am going to spend the rest of the weekend sending it over and over again.

Here is my two cents to the Governor of that State, I am getting involved..what are you going to do?????

Dear Governor Rick Perry,

Today I came across an article that talked about a 14 year old black girl by the name of Shaquanda Cotton, who is currently serving a 7 year prison sentence for shoving a 58 year-old teacher’s aide at Paris High School in your Great State of Texas. At best this was an error in judgment on this child’s part that should never constitute such a sentence from Judge Chuck Superville, and is totally outrageous.

I am familiar with the history of Paris, TX, in its treatment of black residence and the current disparity in the justice system of that county when it comes to the sentencing of blacks to that of whites, where white are give probation for major crimes and blacks are given prison sentences for minor offensives, as in this case.

My heart hurts to think that in the day and age, my 14 year old sister can be taken from her family, subjected to a trial and sentenced to prison for a childish mistake that should have been dealt with by the school. When I was in high school, if a student shoved a teacher, the student was given detention or at the extreme, suspension for a number of days, never a prison sentence.

Governor Perry, this letter is to ask your attention in the matter, to overturn the ruling of Judge Chuck Superville in the Shaquanda Cotton case, for the sake of all children and families of the children in your State, no matter black or white. I am asking that Judge Chuck Superville be investigated for his obvious racist actions in this case, and for you to take a look at other cases that he has presided over.

I believe that you will do the right thing for Shaquanda Cotton and have her released to continue her education and have a normal childhood. My hope is that this will be done without delay.

Sincerely,

I agree the sentencing is a bit harsh BUT if it sets a precedent to keep even one more of our people out of jail then its worth it. These young kids today are out of order no damn discipline, they need to restore order and stop belittling our race with these savage like ignoramus behavior.

I love to see our people excelling and doing right its time to stop giving these people a reason to label us animals and savages.

*lock her ass up, it will help her make wiser decisions for her future...

Come on man.... :smh: How can you agree that seven years just for pushing someone is justified????!!!?!

Like 80% of the people in the USA would be locked up if all judges used that precedent. I'm sure you have pushed a few people in your life time too so dont be hypocritical.

I believe that the appropriate punishment for pushing someone at school would be expulsion from the school, not seven years in prison.

We need support to try to get this girl out of prison. Please voice your opinion to the Texas Governor, Senators, Oprah, the ACLU, etc..

There are so many reason I love this board, and this is just another one of them. After listening Rickey Smiley show yesterday, I emailed my letters from work. If anyone has the #'s to the governors office, please post those as well.

I have a 15 year old, so I can only imagine what that mother is going through for something so senseless.

7 years is to much, they should have gave the brat 6 months to a year, WTF she doing putting her hands on an adult at school anyway???????

7 years is wayyyyyy to much, but the brat needs home training. I'm down to say fuck the judge but if we she this brat in the news after she gets free dont say I didnt warn ya.

Now here is a case that beats all

http://blog.cleveland.com/earlyedition/2007/03/judge_in_cop_bar_brawl_case_re.html

So according to this asshole judge's precedent if two parties are drinking nobody can be a witness to a crime???

These CPD are racist as shit, and this brother should have known to stay away from the "cop bar" and he should have known how cleveland lets cops get away with anything.

But corrigan saying if you are drinking you cannot be a witness? You know how many cases that could hamper?????????????????????????????

Brother got hosed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI.

The protest is tomorrow. I hope we dont get any trouble from the racists that run this place.

Here is a copy of the letter I sent to the judge.

I am writing to protest your actions in sending a 14 year old girl to prison for 7 years for pushing a hall monitor. People are saying that this is a racial issue...only you know if that is a correct assumption. This sentence was extreme and without merit. I do not condone the behavior of this child nor do I believe that the child should not be penalized for her actions. I do believe that counseling services focusing on anger management, a suspension from school, and community service would better meet the needs of the school system and the child. The justice system should seek justice, not attempt to destroy the lives of our children. Please reconsider your sentencing of this child to prison and review sentencing guidelines related to this type of case.

Man this hits close to home because the wifey is from Paris. She does not know the girl but she did go to school with the girls mother. This is clears case of a racist judge exercising his power. I have sent a handwritten letter to the judge and a email to Oprah. I am not a Jessie Jackson fan but if he really cares about the black community he needs to intervene. 7yrs for pushing a hall monitor is beyond excessive. I ask the BGOL community to step up to the plate and do your part. A black child is wasting in the prison system because of a racist judge.

Dlateshow

Time to roll out for the protest DFW folks. The KKK is supposed to be there but i say Fuck em!!!!

I'll let you know how it turns out

There has got to be a higher authority that can correct this racist judge decision. That's if you want to call him a judge. Shaquanda ought to be released and he ought to be put behind bars for 7 years for making that racist, childish decision. Fuck the judge and that old white bitch that shaquanda pushed down.es:

i think that sentence is about right. if texas considers assault a class a offence, also i was reading that they do increase the sentencing if the crime is against a public official. I was reading somewhere, and i'll try to get links a little later, that class a offences in some states are punishable anywhere from 110-129 weeks of prison time. do your math and that comes out to be, a little over 2 years. but that's not with the public offical tack on, and it's texas for boot. More to come....

Types of Assault and Battery / Penalties
Assault and battery charges can range from misdemeanors to the most serious felonies. State statutes frequently include special protection for groups of people considered vulnerable or at higher risk of being subject to an assault and battery. For example, an assault and battery against a child, especially an indecent assault, can result in much harsher sentences than a fistfight in a tavern. Similarly, assault and battery against public servants (including firefighters, police and emergency medical personnel), educators, the elderly, disabled people or pregnant women can result in more severe sentencing.

from http://www.assaultlawyerhouston.com/default.asp?focus=topic&id=1

this link is from washington state but i can only think that texas would follow very similar or maybe even more strick guidelines.

it says that if convicted of assault1 a class a offence the sentencing is from 103-129 weeks. if it's considered A+ it's a 180 week to age 21 sentence.

http://www.sgc.wa.gov/PUBS/Juvenile/Juvenile_Disposition_Manual_2006.pdf

so, depending on texas' guidelines, the judge may have been within his right to sentence her to 7 years. I haven't seen the full account on what happened with her pushing the guy either. I'll search more, maybe i can find an "unbias" account of what happened.

and as far as the white girl committing arson, the washington guidelines state that if it's arson in the second degree which is a class b offence on the first offence the sentence can be 0 jail time and $500 fine and ranges from probation up to 30 days jail time. Again, texas may be different, and the details of the case aren't present.

Just trying to say that maybe before we go and say something is racist, maybe we should see what really happened....then again, i haven't read the incident report so i don't know either, just presenting the other side of the story since noone has looked up the sentencing yet.

ok, here is some of the quotes from the paper that i found:

From the Chicago Tribune:
"Shaquanda was tried in March 2006 in the town's juvenile court, convicted of "assault on a public servant" and sentenced by Lamar County Judge Chuck Superville to prison for up to 7 years, until she turns 21."

it says up to 7 years (why hasn't anybody mentioned that she can be released for good behaviour?) Key words..."UP TO"

From The Young Black Professional Guide:
"the turmoil suffered by shaquanda in juvenile prison, where 95% of the offenders are repeat and violent (read: real crimes), has caused her to attempt suicide on her life 3 times. 3 times!"

so you're telling me that this "angel" (some articles call her that) is so mentally desturbed that she'd try to kill herself 3 times, and no one think she deserves jail time???

another quote:

"All Shaquanda did was grab somebody and she will be in jail for 5 or 6 years?"

said Gary Bledsoe, an Austin attorney who is president of the state NAACP branch.

ALL SHE DID???? so what happens when a bouncer at a club tells her she can't come in cause they are at maximum capacity and she pushes him, he tries to grab her, and she shoots him(a little extreme i know, but you get my point)?

I guess people believe we should be able to walk over whomever we choose...
