Found 20 light years away: the New Earth

Unfortunately, we can never get it to. Even if we build a spaceship that travels at the speed of light, our life span is just too short to endure such a journey. Bummer!

Although I'm no scientist nor astronomer, it seems they make too many drastic predictions within this galaxy. Unless it's some sort of super/telescope besides the Hubble that the public doesn't know about how can they predict such radical theories such as the probable temperature of this planet. It's 20 light years away, which is IMPOSSIBLE to reach in this current lifetime.

Now only if we can get a hold of this then we'd be in business lol

We shoulda been in Space colonizing by now.. stupid americans.. after we bit Russia it was all "Well.... yeah .. so we beat em to the moon...what now?"

If we had one of these we'd be in good shape... I swear The American Space Program could be years ahead of where we are, unless the Government already has an advanced space Program we know nothing of, ala StarGate.

But this makes one wonder about the aspect and nature of the universe. If there is other life in the universe what does that say about our percption of our place in it. I believe it would be impossible to live on any other planet but Earth. Remmeber what happened when the Native Americans got exposed to foreign diseases and died oout in large numbers. The same would happen to us if we ever go to that planet. H.G. Wells wrote about this in his book War of the Worlds.

This is such a good question. I wonder if they elected anyone like Bush also. Hopefully they got it right.

Nope, it's supposedly impossible to travel at light speed but at a close enough velocity --let's say 99.9999999999999999999999% the speed of light-- time would stretch (slow down relative to the passage of time on the Earth) considerably inside the vehicle so that it may be possible to cover the distance well within a human lifespan.

Google "time dilation."

Exactly that's why it's hard to get excited about any of this...

Man, thats some incredible shit. So much shit is going on and being discovered in our life time. So there must be life over there correct? Could they be the so called aliens that invade us from time to time. Just a question cause this is some interesting shit. I gotta do my homework on this one. Wow man :hmm:

it's very exciting and deep when you think about it. Earth is the only inhabitable planet in our solar system, galaxy which is a spiral by the way. There are billions of galaxies and planets-and star systems. Do you think 'we' are the only people that got lucky? You would be arrogant to think that. There is such a thing as faster than light travel but we only know 'lightspeed' to be the fastest and have no other equations or theories to sustantiate anything further. There is other out there, i can almost gurantee it. And who knows, if star trek is any indicator some of em may even be fine

Inhabitable by who's definition.. My biggest problem with Earth Science are these three things..

Light..Air..Water.

There are creatures that live on Earth that need NONE of those 3 and survive and thrive. I call BS on that we have the only inhabitable planet.. now In regards to our type of organism then yes, our Galaxy is pretty damn inhospitable.

Somewhere in a Galaxy far far away aliens are having a meeting whether or not they should blow up this planet.Nothing good can come out of having white people with technology to travel to different planets in different solar systems.
:smh: :smh: :smh: :smh:

Awww Man, this is a no brain-er...

All we need to do is equip the STARSHIP ENTERPRISE with a FLUX CAPCITOR, enabling Marty to fold time and Space at WARP speed, and have us there in no time!

And the Guild Navigator will help us find 7 of 9 and few of them lost ass Galactica freaks for the journey!

I have the book and the movie. I have talked to Carl Sagan on the radio when I was a child in early 75 to ask about black holes and alternate dimensions.

Even though I was a child, he pandered to me and made me feel as if I were special.

God Bless him.

yeah im pretty sure this has something to do with the law of realitivity also. which is like similar to if ur on a train station stop the train is accelerating faster to a person in the front then it is to a person at the back or far end. its hard to grasp the concept of this but its actually true (realitively speaking)

people just take this type of stuff and run with it. however it is possible to have an idea about the size, temperature and atmosphere of this planet based on many things such as the "wobble" of its star from the planets own gravity, the color or haze shown when its star passes through its atmosphere, and the size/type of its star compared to the distance of the planet.

even if we knew this stuff to be 99% accurate we could be 100% wrong by something as simple as the planet not rotating fast enough or not having a metal core or something crazy like that which would make it hard for human life.

Lucky asshole bastard jerk.

It's probably going to be a long ass while until we come up with an engine that will even come close to the speed of light. I'm not holding out the possibility though. Mapping the human genome and superfast supercompact computers were just daydreams 50 years ago... so who the fuck knows? Everything is possible.

Good point. So this means even our bodies cannot survive the speed, let alone build a vehicle that could travel at that speed.

Either way we are screwed. :smh:

Ya know, there are people who don't believe in a mightier being (aka GOD), but I think "somebody" is responsible for this grand design. I think an "architect" sat down and created a master plan of universal checks and balances. It's like, "Sure, go ahead and do this... but you can't do this... because of this..."

The universe is too damn big for earth to be the only planet with life

And intelligent life, to add.

Not only that, but it's expanding every second we sit here and type shit on bgol. Heck, it existed before our tiny speck of a planet. So the chances of millions of grand-father earths out there is high.

Just because human eyesight is limited to visible light in the electromagnetic spectrum, doesn't mean we're totally blind in other wavelengths of the spectrum with devices we've built. Most of these devices aren't even in close Earth orbit. They're right here on the surface of the Earth. That's how we know.

Not trying to insult anyone, but black folks and Americans in general, need to have more than a passing interest in science. They had a study that came out a few years ago that said a little less that 1/4 of the US population had a sufficient understanding of science. That's horrible.

I wonder if their scientist are saying they found a Earth like planet in the Milky Way Galaxy

Er, 20 light years away is in our Milky Way Galaxy. It's a little over 100K light years across.

Interesting story, but from what I understand we can't travel using the usual methods( high speed ship traveling at extreme velocities from point A to point B). This is where wormholes, teleportation, jump gates and other radical technologies come into play. Oh and best believe the feds are experimenting with this technology. Just because we Joe and Jane Q public say it can't be done doesn't MEAN it can't be done. The sciences they are teaching in public schools is a stripped down version of the stuff " the powers that be" are working with. On a lighter note just think of all the potentional booty on other planets!!!! A whole planet that looks like Brasil!!!!!!!

i know it sounds far fetched they need to figure out a way in which they use gravity as a means for travel. think about as far as we know gravity is everywhere planets are constantly pulling and pushing against one another. why not just figure out how to create a machine that is sort of like a magnet and rides on gravity and/or some kind electromagnetic field.

Chemistry is chemistry. No reason to think that human can't live on another planet. In order to survive under the water, we take a liveable habitat. In order to get to another world, we will take a liveable habitat and construct a suitable habitat upon arrival. Humans have been living in earth orbit for years.
No magic required.

Humans can live on the moon, mars or where ever we choose to live. We just need supplies. Water is the most essential. It can provides oxygen, fuel and satisfy our thirst.
